Arms questions

I just started an arms warrior so i have a few quick questions. When overpower procs flashing on my bar do you cast that everytime? Also any tips suggestion, looking for intuative UI that would work well with arms. Side question did anyone else loose gems recipes? I can no longer craft hit or str gems and all my arp gems went to crit gems, even my bold, which is odd imo.

all arp gems became crit

ar pen on gear became haste or crit

as for how to play it, google is your best friend, or some discords. You want to overpower before taste for blood buff expires, but you dont have to right away. By contrast if you delay mortal strike, you lose cooldown time. Overpower by contrast doesnt lose cooldown time because it has no cooldown but its based on a buff that procs on rend ticks, allowing you to cast it between mortal strikes or other GCDs without losing overpower uptime.

Seems a lot like slam for my fury. S
So when overpower flashes is that when taste blood expires? And mortal strike is my spam at every chance spell? Thanks for the reply

Overpower flashes when you’re able to use it, whether through a Taste for Blood proc (or if an attack of yours is dodged).

As long as Rend is up, Taste for Blood gives you 6-second windows in which to use Overpower – so you can actually maximize damage and rage usage by delaying a few seconds if need be. You just need to make sure not to miss a usage window.

As for Mortal Strike, yes, on cooldown, generally after Colossus Smash if both are up (but there are exceptions based on circumstances/procs).

At this point yeah just smash it. There was some finesse to timing your Overpowers in WotLK depending on what your goals were, but in Cata it’s a lot more straightforward. One of the more disappointing changes in Cata is Arms design.

I think they were going for simplification of macros (pummel / shield bash, less stance requirements) and QoL, but they overdid it for sure in some spots. It’s not as bad as retail warrior and Cata is pretty fun, but this xpac started that transition.

In TBC / Wrath you would’ve been used to just being able to roll up on someone and put out pressure with white hits, thanks to weapon damage and things like ArP / Ignore Armor, but now everything will revolve around Colossus Smash.

Kind of adds a clunky GCD to the rotation if you ask me and makes warrior less universally threatening, burst will get really crazy during Cata though.
