Arena Title Boosting / Selling

In the original Burning Crusade there were instances in which players would pay other players either gold or real life money to have their character boosted in arena. I was aware of players who boosted through having a skilled player join there team and play alongside them and other cases where the skilled player actually logged into the purchaser’s account and played their character for them. The latter being the more concerning.

Arena was new at the time and so was this concept so I don’t think they were very rampant back then (but they could have been). I think in the current environment of GBIDs, gold buying, etc that boosting in arena is going to be a very common thing in Burning Crusade Classic. Many players in today’s environment seem to want to do everything they can to maximize the strength of their character with as little play time / effort as possible and I think this will be true with arenas as well.

I personally believe that it is bad for the arena environment for a number of reasons but one of the biggest concerns I have is that if boosters are rampant then lower ranked players may encounter them frequently and lose to them. This could cause them to be discouraged and quit doing arenas or cause them to feel like they need to buy a boosting service themselves.

I don’t know what the current situation is on retail as I don’t play it. I would really like to know what other players feel about this possible situation and what Blizzard’s stance on this will be as we move into the first classic expansion.

Buying with gold is not against terms so they won’t do anything. Piloting someone’s account is and they do ban for that. I don’t think this will be as big of an issue as it is in retail. I feel like it is way harder to carry someone in tbc than retail. It’s doable but I don’t think a 2s player can take a 1400 player to 1800 like in retail. But that’s just my 2 cents.

This system is much harder to carry in. You have to keep playing to get points (the higher rating you have the more points you can get. So you have to keep your rating high) and gladiator isn’t a set rating. It’s based on everyone else’s rating.

I don’t think the boosts where a gladiator/r1 level player plays alongside the buyer will be that bad. As you said, there’s only so much they can do to carry a player. So I’m definitely more worried about piloting someone else’s account. I’m aware that it’s a bannable offense but just not sure how proactive blizzard may be about it. If action isn’t taken or is taken slowly then the damage may already be done.

All the people who paid for a carry are known on the server.

I don’t understand the point of buying something you aren’t good enough to do yourself.

As if you won’t be exposed once anyone sees that player pvp.
