Arena Fixes Needed Now

Remove rating requirements or make them % based instead of fixed numbers.

For example, make shoulders available for duelists, not a hard 2k rating. The original devs did not intend to give shoulders to just gladiators.

Add hateful weapons.

PvE content is too easy compared to PvP. A hateful weapon would help you compete against someone luckier who got their 25m weapon.

As someone who loved the original wotlk pvp system, I’m thoroughly disappointed by the current state of affairs. However, these two fixes might save season 5 as players will stick around if they feel they can achieve realistic rating requirements.

You can git gud and overcome bad pve luck to achieve high ratings in the current system, but these proposed changes aren’t for skilled players. These are meant to help newer players have a chance at enjoying the pvp ladder climb with rewards better spread out for them, instead of hitting daunting 300 rating walls.

Edit: in case you think this is a selfish thread to help myself, I have already acquired the pvp gear I need with my current rating. The goal here is to increase participation.

How about no. You have like 20 weapons that are close enough to easily push you to 2k unless you are a 1500 player by default.

Why would you be against anything that would increase PvP participation in any way shape or form

The PvE content being a far easier way to obtain weps does actually hurt PvP

And the ratings really are quite deflated when considering the reward structure in place

Such an elitist mentality for no reason; if you’re actually a good player you would want to see people have some extra motivation to participate so that there’s more competition.

As it stands with overall player base skill increasing the PvE content has gotten trivialized in comparison to PvP which can keep improving - but not to mention the rewards still don’t even align with the percentage of the player base they once did

I think a flat rating is still good @OP so it can get easier to obtain as time goes on which can also match a players path towards improvement and feels good, it’s just rating is too deflated and reward cutoffs are too high with the current structure.

I’ll put it this way; in WoTLK S8 my first season PvPing I eventually got the wrathful tabard at the end and I was still barely above rival range (I think very low duelist)

When I first got into tabard range this season I was in Rank 1 range which is a pretty massive leap. Granted earlier parts of the seasons are still the most deflated - it is fairly significant how above the population is. Getting my first 1800/2k in WOTLK was like super low rival range at best which is a pretty decent chunk of the population and that doesn’t match up at all with current difficulties of rewards

I can’t see how this would be a net negative in any way to try to give more incentive for people to try to participate in arenas.

The average PvP’er can hit 2k?
You sir are dumb af.

That’s how Wrath is by default. And it gets worse each phase. PVE raid weapons out shine PVP weapons all of Wrath and each phase it gets worse.

It’s not elitest. It’s how the game is made to play. Multiple expantions there always been PVE gear better than PVP and you are forced to farm it. The RNG is part of the game.

We are looking at the worst arena season ever for any version of the game.

Think about that and then decide if you want to go no changes to arena for the rest of wrath.

just git gud scrub lol xd

Yeah worse arena season right… Yet every big streamer is doing arena here.

1400 player confirmed.

Not really; T2 weapons come out in Ulduar

They actually are pretty decent to use even in PvE assuming bad luck and are quite useful until we see some super godtier ICC weapons

Back in real WoTLK it’d be easier to at least start out with a 2200 wep as a raider until you can maybe upgrade with absolute BiS weapons that can take a while based on rng or even how long it would take for people to clear endgame bosses

Let’s be real the playerbase now is so good that even though Ulduar will be harder than Naxx which was a joke in real wotlk launch a far, far larger portion of the population will clear ulduar compared to WoTLK when live

The percentage of the population obtaining current rewards from PvP does not match up to what it did in the past which is why this is a dumb comment to make but ok

This doesn’t take into account that the retail season is over and dragonflight has yet to release so WoTLK is the only ladder for a top pvper besides playing prepatch games or beta for some solo shuffles

Participation has really dropped and you can feel it with this season, and even the people I know including myself or even private server players too that are high on the ladder will generally say this season really isn’t that great so I don’t think it’s a necessarily wrong statement to make. Tbh my personal opinion is that on an individual level I think hunter is very fun to play on WoTLK but in this season overall arenas aren’t that great; on retail I’ve somewhat had an opposite experience here and there where the arena seasons in general are pretty decent but individual classes might be less fun to plat in some extent

I just want to see both forms of the game do well and would love anything to increase activity or participation in arenas

I am a prot warrior in 2s, got to 1750 so far with a brand new teammate. I was the highest prot warrior in the world season 6 OG 2s 2555 and got glad as such before armor pen stacking.

Let me be washed up and play for fun now in retirement.

Even now if you look at any BiS list for 99% of the specs it’s not PVP weapons. This isn’t an Ulduar thing. This is every freaking phase and it grows worse every phase.

The MMR is always squished at the start of an expantion. 2.1k is Glad currently mid season. R1 is around 2.3. This will increase as normal. Just like every arena season.

Anyone crying didn’t play OG wrath. Or is playing Prot lmao.

We do not have T2 weapons until ulduar the PvP weapon ilvls are obviously awful compared to naxx 25 gear;

The actual point that you keep missing though is that when T2 weapons do exist, that even when they’re not absolute BiS, their ilvls being as high as endgame raid bosses means that they are very competitive weapon options in PvE even until you can replace them.

This is big for specs reliant on weapon damage; for example on melee or an MM hunter. I could use a T2 pvp weapon in PvE and have it as my second BiS until I get the PvE wep to drop in ulduar that will have similar weapon dps but better stats (obviously the pvp wep will have resil so it is suboptimal to having extra stats from a PvE weapon, but the strong ilvl will outweigh a lower ilvl PvE weapon in PvE for obvious reasons).

Yes the MMR is lower in new xpacs

I have played at the highest level in WoW for years

I know what rating is like

In real wotlk teams didn’t start at 0 like our CR does which is already one change that hasn’t been accounted for to begin with

The overall playerbase is still much lower rating wise in comparison to where they would have been in real WoTLK and at the end of the day there can’t be much harm in making extra lenience for rewards - all it can possibly do is open up more participation in the brackets which is a good thing

There are already changes that have been made but they never took into account that some reward levels should be changed to match the newer retail like system when looking at PvP rewards

Give a legitimate argument on how it would be harmful to try to match rewards closer to the percentage of the player base we had in real WoTLK

IF you pvp i would be 10k that you’re a 1200 rated toxic person.

This isn’t OG wrath and S5 started teams at 1500.

Also you’re arguing with a multi R1 player you goon.

3k S3 SL. 12 Glads since Wrath. But yolo.

None of what you said means MMR should be unsquished. The grind should be rough and force people to improve.

Asking to use PVP weapons in PVE without the grind to 2k just shows you are a casual. Don’t pretend to be “high level”

There it is. Somebody who thinks making things easier for casuals hurts his precious accomplishments.

News flash: we’re playing for fun this time around and if you think rating has any meaning in classic you’re insane. Touch grass.

If you could think for a moment you’d realize casuals are why you got 3k in the first place.

Now get 3k with a non meta so you’re as good as me

You lost all creditability when you are playing a G tier spec without armor pen. Then complaining about rating.

And yes making the game stupid easy for casuals hurts the grind and hurts the player base.

Armor pen is stackable more realistically in seasons I didn’t play. S7/8 is when armor pen is king.

I don’t expect you to know this, few have played prot at a gladiator level or even played against it.

Maybe you can do it with grim toll but I gotta get it first to find out.

I know this and thats why I made the statement. You are playing in a season with no armor pen stacking playing a sub par spec that is only good with armor pen. Then complaining here because you are hard stuck.

Hopefully the second post here doesn’t go over your head again…
