I would love to see competent arena AI bots that players could setup and play practice matches against. Sometimes you just want to practice your new build and or a new strat before playing against other players and practice matches would be perfect for that.
The AI from blizzard is kind of weak though, look at comp stomp brawl as an example, but OpenAI showed us that building competent AI is doable, they made Dota 2 bots that were able to beat the best players in the world both in 1v1 and teams.
I would love to be able to setup custom arena matches to fit our needs, this wouldn’t only benefit veterans but it would help the new players learn how arena works in friendlier environments, think Overwatch practice matches. Arena is intimidating for new players because their first match ever could be against Pikaboo when he’s carrying one of his vewers or against one of the endless amount of gladiators on an alt playing at 1300, the new players just get one shot every match not understanding what they did wrong and after a few games of getting destroyed they never go back to it again which is why we have gladiators playing in the 1300s in the first place.
I think it could also help with the boring moments of wow when you’re waiting for solo que to pop or waiting for an invited to a group, you could leave the bot match at any moment and it wouldn’t hurt anyone.
I could even see challenges be added as well, have legends of the past be AI challenges where for example, you face Reckful in a 1v1 or maybe as a reward for winning the Blizzcon arena championship your character gets turned into a challenge for players to beat.
You could argue that’s not pvp and I get it but as long as the bots aren’t given special abilities I really think it would be a great addition to arena.
At minimum it’s going to let us play arena during those 40 minute solo shuffle ques instead of doing laps in Valdrakken and that alone would be worth it in my books, especially if you could really customize how good you want the bots to be and where any player regardless of skill level could learn from playing.
All I know is these long solo shuffle ques aren’t going to go away and it would be nice to have other arena related content to do during the down times.
Thanks for reading, sorry for the bad grammar.
