Yeah, working online for a bit… its been slow so I poke here in the forums for giggles and fun.
Even log into the game form time to time.
I’ve been working the whole time. I’m considered essential. I’m a union carpenter who’s tearing down an open air mall and turning it into a new open air mall. 4 guys on my job site have tested positive. Pretty cool stuff.
I wish you the best of luck. Sadly you will need it.
if by working you mean day drinking and watching star trek then yes I have been working
I will admit to passively camping world bosses while I work. I keep my bnet status as Appear Offline so my colleagues don’t see.
Hey, if I’m getting the work done, what’s it matter?
I started a new position doing IT Help Desk as a contractor right around when COVID got rolling (mid march), but they gotta have people present, so part of that time we were full staff all there, and once things got dicey a month later, they had us split into two teams sharing in person/work from home rotations. Things are going back to normal next week though so that’ll be the end of my minimal work from hours.
I work in retail at a grocery chain.
Im working the same hours except I have to worry about infection and wearing a facemask all (except for my breaks). It sucks but somebody has to do it.
A mix of working from home and being in the office. In healthcare, so essential, and a single parent, and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work AND keep an eye on my kids, who haven’t been to school since March. Now they are talking of not starting in the fall. Ugh. I dunno what I’m going to do.
My heart goes out to everyone who lost a paycheck, a job, or a business in this mess.
I’m working and have been through this whole thing. Aerospace. We had multiple rounds of Furloughs leading up to the Covid pandemic because of the Boeing stuff, which I was lucky enough to get through as one of the newest hires in the building, but AFAIK we haven’t had to do further furloughs because of Covid since we got approved for the Paycheck Protection Program.
That said, those 8 weeks are up like… this week, and business is still incredibly dead from a combination of these 2 things.
My area hasn’t had more than a half day worth of “normal” work in like a month. For a single person. We normally have 3 people working there. The last couple weeks have been even worse. The last week they sent me to another area to refresh on something I’ve already been cross-trained on and to help re-count inventory (again). They now have a sign up sheet out for people to voluntarily leave early or take day[s] off. No one HAS to yet, but the fact that they’re doing that likely means we’ll see more furloughs if things don’t start ramping back up this month.
Nope. My boss fired everyone from the restaurant i was working at, idk how things work in USA, but here in Brazil after you get fired you get up to 5 months of paid salary while you look for another job, so far im doing great tbh, i still will be paid for the next 4 months, and my boss said that when this pandemic ends he will call us all back to work there again (He laid us off so he doesn’t have to pay us to stay home since he can’t open the restaurant).
That was a lucky break, Caelus. It’s good how some things work out.
I work in a school, and I’m usually two days a week. At the beginning of the Autumn term I was asked if I’d be ok with being the COVID Infirmary Nurse. (I’m healthy with a strong immune system and not in a high risk group.)
I’ve been given my own lovely room, and protective gear, and now I’m five days a week, checking everyone’s temperatures and watching students in my room until their parents arrive. Students are then not allowed to return to school until they have been tested.
I miss my days off, I miss cooking grand meals, keeping my house nice, writing and painting, but like Caelus, I’m so thankful to have a job. My sister and I have a mortgage together, and we’re lucky enough to still be working.
I’m also earning more money than I have since before I had my children, so that’s a bonus!
Good luck to everyone. I was reading in today’s paper that Toilet Paper almost single-handedly saved Australia’s economy, so Yay!
That’s awesome!
Yeah, if you’re fired in the US, you lose your paycheck. You can apply for “unemployment checks” but it’s an annoying and lengthy process, your employer will fight against it, you have to have been fired for a reason that isn’t your doing, and it’s really low pay. And I think you have to re-apply every month or something? It’s awful and stupid and greedy.
My work got pushed into the weekends and I was given hazard pay, despite the fact I work outside.
Now we are back to a normal work week and I get to keep my hazard pay, as they gave me a pay raise!
Workload can be unbearable at times, with record rain I’ve been more than busy, I keep waterways working and control construction run off and sediment on big construction sites.
Today my temp labor guys decided it was too hot and they were going home.
They had seen the truck load of stone that needed moving!
So I then had to hand move half a dump truck of 57 stone (small rocks) myself with one guy filling up the buckets, as the area was protected and no machines are allowed, I am wrecked right now.
I’m so happy it’s Friday tomorrow!
So yes I am working, no doubt about that.
Glad you’re new job is working out for you, you may get to stay at home, seems to be a trend with IT now, with ole Facebook leading the charge.
/hugs

I’m a teacher, so no, I’m not currently working right now (though I did participate in distance learning).
It’s nice since I’d already have the time off, but I feel trapped in my home during summer break, so that’s hard.
Was out for two months with “bronchitis”.
Now I’m back to work, but only 3 days a week. Retail. Getting hazard pay though.
That’s spooky. Was it bad?
Hey, nice. And you might be immune. ![]()
I’m essential. Nothing has changed for me (pay, hours) with the exception of having to wear a mask 9-10 hours a day, and having to explain supply and demand to people. Constantly.
You’d think hazard pay, a raise, or some sort of bonus would’ve gotten tossed our way, but nope. Sad to say I would have been in a much better position had we closed or had I gotten laid off. /sigh
I was essential up until I wasn’t.
Now I am going stir crazy. FInally got unemployment after 6 weeks of waiting.
Still work 6 days a week. I’m 100% essential since I monitor a bunch of rivers, lakes & other water ways in the state I’m currently living in. Plus I have to audit companies that use chemicals that are hazardous to wildlife & the environment plus make sure that these chemicals are properly being disposed of.
