Then yeah, we are of one mind on that.
I guess it depends on a class you are playing.
DK has good hero talents except for San’layn and RNG from DB. Shaman’s hero talents in 11.0 is completely disaster. For Enh, Stormbringer has terrible game design and Totemic is 1000% unplayable for a majority of 11.0
I’m 80% satisfied with how Hero Talents have been developed and implemented as a whole. However, there’s 2 areas that still require some attention:
-
-10% because some Hero Talent specs are performing at a lower level compared to the other Hero Talent spec available to your class. I realize that this is just a continuation of the on-going battle of class balance, but in the case of Spriest for example, Voidweaver (while being extremely awesome aesthetically) just doesn’t perform as well as Archon does. The Hero Talent spec performs fine… But I feel a distinct difference in output when I’m doing keys/raids after I swap Hero Talents.
-
-10% because some Hero Talents just feel either extremely passive and/or have little to no "flair* about them. The current Surv Hunter Packleader is a prime example of having no flair. On the flip side, Voidweaver Spriest has an incredible aesthetic.
All in all, I like the Hero Talent trees. I understand that balancing them is going to be a constant battle, so I can forgive them if not every Hero Talent sees representation in every Season. I would however like for them to continue improving upon the aesthetics/class fantasy a bit more for each Hero Talent.
Eh… Probably not, I primarily play Paladin (since I can’t be bothered to grind valorstones on alts) and none of the pally ones really appeal to me, they are just really basic, barely shaking up the fantasy, just Paladinier Paladins, especially when compared to some titans like the mage hero talents, or hell even the reworked hunter ones.
Somewhat satisfied. I wish there was more of a visual appearance to them.
There’s also absolutely no explanation to go along with acquiring these new talents. Involving class halls would have made a lot of sense. You hit level 71 and suddenly you can specialize your spec with no reason given. It just feels incomplete, story-wise.
I forget they exist most of the time which is just about where I want them to be, so yes!
Im not satisfied at all because its always 1 thats BIS not matter the circumstances.
They needed to make the choices both equally the same in the DPS dept.
And most dont even have different play styles built in. Its just 1 better than the other for the meters.
Really? I love templar so much. Each their own I guess.
I think they need further iteration
Ultimately I think they should add more sets of hero talents, I’m not caring about the exact balance but obviously they should be made so they’re really treated more like a choice rather than how some are (like WW monk currently) where 1 of them is just strictly worse than the other in all forms.
I don’t like how some hero talents are very specifically themed towards somewhat adjacent things in the game. For instance Marksmanship Hunter is pretty cool thematically to me personally, but I have no desire to play one as my options are Dark Ranger or Sentinel, both of which are fine in of themselves but are both so deeply tied to either fallen High Elves or Night Elves that I just don’t like it. They feel like they should strictly be for those races as it just looks and feels wrong to play a Dwarf or Troll Dark Ranger man.
I wouldn’t mind the more specifically themed hero talents if there were more broad ones really. Of the 3 Monk ones, 2 of them are fairly generic for the class where the last (Shado-Pan) is more Pandaren related more than anything but it could really just get renamed and it’d still be fine since nothing it does really feels like it has strong thematics to Shado-Pan.
I hate them. If they stay as they are, Resto Druid will always be forced into treants for maximizing healing and kittyweaving for damage. I want to use nature magic to heal and damage people, and these force me to prioritize summoning ugly trees to do my job for me or to get into melee as a ranged healer. They seem like sh**ty permanent tier sets to me, forcing us into specific builds unless we want to be substantially subpar.
I like the movement buffs on my holy priest, but the class is so movement deficient that it seems more like a reluctant gift from Blizz than anything else, since everyone is getting a movement buff from hero talents. Of course, it’s still not very good. Also some of Oracle’s different icons are very similar in color and the shapes are hard to remember, making it difficult for me to use under pressure.
Scalecommander and Diablolist are pretty damn cool
Some of them created interesting playstyle differences though also limit the spec to just those two styles since the few choice talents within hero talents don’t make that much of a difference.
In the case of Mistweaver both trees also entirely neglected the caster side of the spec while having multiple tie-ins to rising sun kick. Wasn’t a fan of that choice.
Oracle Disc and the new left-side of Disc’s talent tree also seemed like it was trying to make a healing/absorb playstyle a viable alternative to a DPS focus, but that didn’t really seem to work out that well.
Resto druid seemed to just be a weaker spec than they were in early DF and didn’t really feel that interesting via either hero tree. I liked the Keeper of the Grove theme but it didn’t really live up to the concept in practice. Throwing out an occasional weak treant isn’t that interesting.
If they do a better job balancing hero spec options and make the boring ones more interesting I think it could get better going forward.
Dev evoker and demo warlock is what I play the most and my god do I love both these hero talents. Also love soul harvester as well for my affliction lock.
That talent does literally nothing to help with Alrachi Reaver’s playstyle. It does not throw reaver’s glaive, it is not intended to throw reaver’s glaive, and if it did throw reaver’s glaive it would actually be more annoying for all 2 people that currently like aldrachi. (Edit: nvm someone already explained it better i just missed it)
What’s crazy about the wounded quarry change is the old one made you generate more soul fragments, this one doesnt. So yeah even if it ends up working as intended it may be a net buff, but it will still feel bad to play because you are more likely to miss out on the souls you need.
Absolutely. Im fine with just some tweeks to fel-scarred to start with, but if what was on the PTR right now for aldrachi was what was shown on beta i still would have been asking for a completely different hero tree. That abomination should have never made it to launch.
They’re trash.
