i was just asking questions and the topic of GDKP was brought up, and it dawned on me that GDKP is likely the reason for the decline in population during phase 2 while phase 1 was thriving.

everyone i talked to thus far has explained that they didn’t play phase 2 because the gdkp ban.

so i suppose if the gdkp ban stays then phase 3 will also have a very small playerbase.

But they said social structures AND guilds. As in two separate things.

Anecdotally my Era guild got more than a few recruits out of the GDKPs that were run, due to making connections and friendships with regular attendees and bringing them into the fold.

To me GDKP was just like everything else in this game, a structure of pugging with a specific loot distribution. And the ugly stain on it was the RMT underbelly.

Would have been nice to see them resolve the latter without having to resort to dictating how players decide to organize and distribute loot.

I agree. There’s no suggestion that the existence of GDKPs in other versions of Classic means they are popular with the majority of the playerbase. There’s also no suggestion they aren’t popular either. People tend to be more vocal about what they don’t like than what they do like, and there was an equal amount on both sides when the ban was announced.

I think it’s more so that the incentive structures around GDKP makes it more popular. People tend to raid log more when they have no reason to play, and GDKP gave more incentives for geared players to do more content. It’s really as simple as that.

I did, I activated 1 of them to make gold selling p3 materials I stockpiled and also to see if SoD is still a nanny state (seems it is)…

people came to me to discuss this outside of the thread at first, which is why i felt it was necessary to bring it up.

GDKP ban has been really bad for the overall growth and well-being of the SoD community which is why sod phase 2 was basically a ghost town.

Even if I think it’s silly for Blizzard to get into the habit of controlling what loot distribution systems are available, I don’t think the person with 4 accounts is the target demographic for their game design…

These people are TOURISTS they did not play vanilla. They did not play private servers. They barely played classic to this point and by log data it’s real close between not at all and barely. They have a few bodies who they hold out in front of the crowd to justify them but it’s on the whole true.

They got hard filtered by gdkp p1, these people are not used to no. Heck they formed a mass report discord and flooded the system with false reports, which is why gdkp actually caught a ban.

They hated being excluded and came up with this everyone’s a gold buyer paranoid drivel as cope. You’ll never change their minds, you’re talking about a group of perpetual man children who have never excepted blame or criticism well.

Microsoft is cleaning house, the way they post on twitter, the businesses choices, lack of token in all games, products not offered for sale because “nuh uh” and all these cringy “beatdown” posts with no data ever attached?
