I was thinking of making a WoW private server for myself once I got my subscription back. As I want to make my own NPC battles. And explore either Draenor or WotLK Azeroth as I want to explore easier.
Absolutely not.
Not only is it illegal (using stolen IP from Blizzard), you will also run the risk of having your legitimate retail WoW account perma-banned and the possibly of legal action against you.
Ok, thank you.
I wish there was another way to mess around with Warcraft assets, NPCs, etc. As I want to mess around with the games NPCs. As I want to make NPC battles because they are fun to watch. If there is anyway to do this without getting in legal trouble, please let me know.
Can’t tell you over the official forums, you are gonna do some Google searches.
I read some forums and I have learned some things.
It is legal to host a Private Server if it meets one things.
One: it is not obtained from a leak
Two: you are not gaining money off it
Three: It’s not selling the games client
But I don’t want to go in some legal trouble. But it is legal.
And also: htf would I make money on a server if it’s for myself? It’s not like I’m going to advertise it. This is only for me to mess around. If there was a way I could have Blizz have access to it, I would give it to them, but on conditions that I’m a GM so I can mess around, and they don’t share it to anyone. (Keep in mind I’m a minor)
Yeah, do those “forums” advertise botting and hacking?
There is no legal way to host a private server.
EVERY Private server software out there has leaked and stolen code in it. It uses the assets of WoW Client, which you do not own.
Unless you can pull an Official Blizzard statement say so, Private servers are verboten.
That is gonna be hard no…
Learn Blender 3d and build your own assets, It’s free.
Sorry.
Unless you have permission from Blizzard, or they have licensed out the intellectual property to you to use, then no it’s not legal to host a private WoW server.
It is unclear to me that (public) forums are going to give you correct information. Since Nostalrius was shutdown by Blizz in the U.S., I expect private servers are not legal, possibly due to copyrights. Those servers that exist are in other countries where U.S. copyright laws may not obtain. Just a word of caution.
Edit: For what it’s worth, you might want to take a look at Krimson KB’s reaction to Captain Grim’s The Shadowlands Story in a Nutshell. He has a suggestion about RP in the game.
You need to read this too.
Except it absolutely isn’t.
You asked the question, got the answer you didn’t want to hear, and now you’re going to try to rationalize how you’re right and we’re wrong, disregarding the fact that some of us have likely been here since before you were born, and just might know a thing or two more than you do.
But you’re going to do what you’re going to do, so…
I understand most of you people are probably older then me, but I have more questions
What do I do with assets I make with blender? I don’t know how to cold, so the only use I see of the models is to give them to someone.
Now stormfury, about the forum I mentioned, it was basically the same as mine, and there was mention of hacking or botting.
But you have to understand, there is no way I can do this without having to do some law breaking. As you can’t even do anything sandbox related. And I don’t want to do it money or attention, I’m doing it just to assist in some ideas. And there is hundreds of Private Servers that Blizz ignores, did they get Nostalrius because it was getting larger then their retail game? If Blizzard has the power to destroy the servers, why can’t they? I get literally ads for Private Servers everywhere. And Blizz does nothing. I understand this is illegal and all, but you have to agree, these servers are ignored by Blizz, even if they get ads. But Nostalrius was just destroyed for what I assume Is because it was bigger then retail.
Why is this not the end of the debate?
But I won’t do it as me rationalizing illegal BS is not a good idea at all.
Does this answer your question?
Go to Youtube, there is A PLETHORA of videos and tutorials on ANYTHING related Blender.
It’s not a felony like Murder, it IP theft, if caught (if the owners do pursue it) the owner can demand monetary compensation, seizure of the artwork and assets and among other things. The monetary is the most hurtful as the courts award the value of the items that was used X 3.
I don’t think your parents would like having a lean put on their home, cars and other properties. I’m sitting on a rather large lean on a house, of someone that thought the can appropriate some illustrations I did. He can cannot sell it til he pays off the lean. It’s a lot of money.
They are not ignored, those “servers” are in countries that do NOT enforce IP rights and generally ignore them.
Was taken down as it was hosted in the US physically.
So yeah, debates over, your advice is wiser, and I’m not going to do this, I apologize for rationalizeing this and being a idiot, I won’t do something like this ever again. And I will learn something from this, please forgive me for being stubborn, I should probably hear more experienced people out, as I have some trust issues. I hope you all understand and we can all leave this forum behind. good day to you all.
You are not an idiot, it’s how you learn, by asking questions. At least you asked before jumping in head first before checking the water levels. I’m a bit harsh, due to dealing with IP theft in the past (as I described).
But seriously, Look into Blender 3d. You can make a ton of money creating stuff in that software, and you won’t have hide it. My nephew creates 3d assest for VR, he started at 16, at 18, he’s got a full running business and making bank.
I might check out Blender because of you. I owe you something, thank you.
it’s gonna take some dedication. I’m looking forward to seeing your first doughnut. You’ll understand when you see it.
