Customer Service replies seem to suggest that actively defending where you are in combat is great but sitting in a tower that does not get attacked over multiple bg’s could be a bannable offense if other players report you and you show little to no combat time.
I’m not banned. I just saw a CS response saying if you stay at a tower that you are not participating? It seems very out of touch.

As far as I can tell from the latest customer service rep, you shouldn’t defend tower/bunkers.

I wouldn’t, just stick with the herd or else someone may dislike that deviation of thought.
They just overturned my ban for defending towers so I recommend letting them get recapped and report anyone on the opposing faction for defending towers. AV is a PvE battleground any defense is no longer tolerated.

I was defending towers all day and never ran into any issues. My general strat was to hit Galv, then mount up and head over to TP. As soon as that hit 5 seconds, I jump out and make my way south to help Drek, assuming he isn’t already dead by the time I get there
And if everyone reports you, say goodbye…

They say their data analysts “pore” over every individual case and give a very scrutinous look for non-participation of a player. Apparently they don’t use player reports to issue suspensions, and none of the suspensions are automated. 
We are at a stage now that not playing optimally in any facet of the game can get you punished not only by the players but from Blizzard…
What a great game…
Imagine for new players doing AV for the first time, making the “mistake” to defend an empty bunker or doing the quests on the map.
