Are shaman the weakest pvp healer?

Not saying they are bad at all. But ranked with the other healers, they just feel the squishiest and easiest to kill

Well - I am currently leveling a Shaman mostly through questing and Random Battlegrounds. I queue for PvP as DPS/Heals and always get selected for the healer role. Even though I’ve queued into Randoms with as many as 6 !!! other heals. lol

I get buried in the stats by Resto druids and ?Disc? priests… I do seem to get focused really hard, and once you get 2 or more melee on you it’s bad…

Might be a learn to play issue on my part though.

I also leveled a light forged Draenei Ret/Holy Paladin to 80 and did the same thing. Random BGs as a Holy Pally it seemed like I lasted longer… But it’s been a few months, so my memory could be bad.

Resto Shamans are utility healers. Your totems are what makes you a good healer, not your healing numbers.

Grounding Totem, Earthen Wall Totem, Spirit Link totem, Wind Shear, ect.

They all contribute to Resto Shamans having a huge impact in your BGs, but not through raw healing numbers.

Anything that isn’t a paladin or a dh is currently considered weak. Yes, even druids.

. * If * you can get casts off, you will do a good amount of healing. The problem lies in survival under pressure. A priest or druid, and to a greater extent, a paladin can tank several players (3+) at once without too much issue. A shaman on the other hand, now that Pack Spirit (Azerite Trait) has been nerfed to be only 25% effective in PvP, can’t do that anymore.

So if a couple of melee get on a Shaman, they can effectively shut it down without too much issue. You are essentially at the whim of your team, and if they do not peel, you will not be healing for much. All your instant cast heals are lack-luster, and cannot save you when you are focused. Juking, while effective against 1 or possibly 2 melee, cannot save you against more then that. Priest, and Druids have the most effective heals in that regard because they do not need to hard cast like a Shaman do.

Shaman aka the only healing class I can solo.

I think I do pretty well on my resto shaman. Surviving gets easier with gear. As the other poster said, totems are where it’s at for a resto shaman. Totem management is what we do, and I put out pretty good healing numbers. Also mentioned above that shaman are more reliant on peels, which I can agree with. When people recommend healers to play in PvP, I always say resto druid or holy priest because I feel like their solo survivability is good, along with pumping out good heals.

Shaman healers are shut down so easily. The name of the game is instant casts and the ability to solo tank multiple people currently. Resto can’t do either.

Something to note is that with mail armor and a shield, you’re fairly tanky as healers go. Against melee with Earthen Wall totem up, low attack speed classes don’t hit you for anything. It should be up long enough for the people diving you to die, but this is random BGs where that doesn’t always happen.

They are definitely solid BG healers though.

This is how it works sub-max. No one can figure out why. If you queue as tank or dps, you can switch roles at the start. But if you queue as healer or healer/dps you always are put into the healer role and cannot switch out no matter how many healers on your team.

However, if there are no healers on your team neither a tank nor dps are permitted to respec to heals.

I’ve seen up to 7 healers. This is broken.

You realize most healers have a ton of utility right? Bop/bof/sac are all amazing (purgeable but totems have 1hp lol). Lifegrip/pain sup/pain sup circle. Rop/tiger Sprint/multiple forms of cc. Druid has some too, just tired of going on.

I’d agree that rsham does have the best utility but I don’t think it quite overpowers the lack of healing outside of chain heal spec which feels pretty bad.

Yea I think they’re down the ranked PvP list right now. Still I think a few make chain heal spec work… Definitely need to sit as far back as possible so you can cast freely.

Nope, In my years of playing I’ve never played any healers besides a resto shaman. Yup.

Also, all of those things combined still pale in comparison to Bloodlust.

For real though, my favorite healers are Holy Paladins, followed by Resto Shamans.

I love tanky healers that support their team. Holy Paladin is a bit more fun for the deep burst instant cast healing, but resto shaman, while lacking in that department, still feels like I assist in the battlegrounds the most out of all the healers I play through support primarily.

No.
/Kisses :kissing_heart:

Eh blood lust is doesn’t even count in a bg anymore… So many ways to get it :slightly_frowning_face:

Too true… Though I do often have to beg mages/shamans to cast the god darned spell 80% of the time.

The best spell in the game and nobody ever uses it. Thats my experience at least.

Really?! Because I find I’m always sad because I’m never the one that gets to press the button! Haha

Man I miss TBC… Lust on sham felt good… Nostalgia is the worst.

Have you ever considered getting that talent that takes Lust off of the long CD, lasts 10 seconds, and only effects 2 people? Its kinda fun if you know someone is going to use the actual Bloodlust properly. I think its only useable on Enhancement, but could be wrong.

Yea enhancement has it… Can be purged though… Definitely run it when I play enhance though. I’ll follow around our top dps and lust him all the time :joy:
