I’m leveling a Rogue right now and I’m around level 60 as Subtely. Didn’t try the other 2 specs yet because Sub seems a lot of fun.
I did pick many defensive tools, but nothing so far really has a substantial long-term sustain (like for example, Ferals popping free Regrowths often), which means if I’m not able to really burst something down, I might struggle once the defensives are spent. Crimson Vial really heals for almost nothing too. IDK why I thought that ability was better.
So, here’s the question: It’s like that at 80 and with the other specs when comes to solo harder elite enemies? Or with high tier Delve soloing?
Rogue soloing depends on how much experience you have on Rogue. If you are asking if Rogues can tank the answer is no.
The last time that was possible was probably MoP with Recuperate, Combat Readiness and Prep (eg 2 Evasions with glyphs to extend duration of Evasion).

Yeah, a few levels later (is so fast nowadays!) as sub. now at 70, I figured that I’m only able to win harder solo fights if I’m really tight with the timings of the CCs, Feints, and maybe some strategic disengaging.
Didn’t try any Delve yet, but I fear I might have a harder time than when I do with Feral. I did glance quicky at the Hero trees and maybe Tricks of the Trade + Trickster’s 1h duration can keep stuff off me to Brann?
Edit: Yep! Just as I thought. Trickster Sub + the hero talent that makes Tricks of the Trade a 60min buff makes soloing (at least those leveling Tier 3’s) a breeze, just gotta make sure to save Evasion to ressurect Brann (healer mode) when needed. Kinda curious to see if it’s the same with the Tier 8’s at level 80, and even more to see how this can work with Tank Brann in 11.1.

there are numerous tricks to tank. i spent years figuring them out. i suggest you do the same.
soloing MOP rares was really the training wheels for rogues to figure it out.

There is no tea, he literally just makes crap up and pretends he did all of these marvelous things years ago. Well, he parsed all grey in LFR, so that is some sort of accomplishment in my book.

Yeah, figured… It’s a bit weird to think that class mechanics mastered over 10 years ago can still be applicable today after so many expansions of change.

The reason that is true is because from stealth the openers are still important and how you layer defensive CDs. That is the one constant with Rogues. The problem is that the way everything else goes once out of stealth since MoP which was over a decade ago has changed though.
I barely touch rogue back then, but I have a vague memory that Recuperate, in the self sustain department, was better than the Crimson Vial we have today.

Recuperate with MoP Leeching poison allowed you to do a lot of soloing of elites and there was the glyph of Recuperate or glyph of Recovery too.

Also, totally off topic… I’m kinda really torn between Alchemy or Engineering for this rogue. I know professions don’t offer big exclusive advantages anymore, but I’m not sure which one has the best QoLs.
I wonder if having potions more readily available can be a bigger boon in solo activities compared to the engineering tricks.
I think I have 4-5 rogues now. Lost count.
Only 2 of them have engineering, but all of them always have alchemy.
Engineering has some cool stuff, but then I actually think about the amount of times I’ve ever used any of them…

I ended up picking Alchemy. I went in to compare all of the available items, and the Alchemy ones seemed better than the engineering gadgets.
With so many ways to portal, I don’t think I’d miss the wormholes a lot.
yes part of it. but other tricks allow you to do things that usually never work. still works to this day.
