Well for one, anxiety is an extreme take on it… like most of your responses. If you are truly that scared about your toon dying, you probably shouldn’t be on a PvP realm, and that’s fine, it’s not for everyone. But for a lot of people that sense of danger and tension gives the world a layer of excitement.
And there are definitely benefits that can be had from playing in that environment. You learn to be more thoughtful regarding cooldowns and positioning. Whereas on a PvE realm you just robotically use cds as soon as their ready, on a PvP realm tho you might consider hanging onto that gap closer or defensive in case an enemy comes over the hill. And you’re just more aware of your surroundings when you are constantly scanning the horizons for enemy players, you know where every mob in pull range is, where the escape routes are, etc. On a PvP realm you have to think more strategically, is pulling that 2nd mob a good idea or should I pull back and eat up first, whereas on a PVE realm it’s a simple calculation, if I can kill mob i pull it. Those are just a few things off the top of my head, playing on a PvP realm absolutely encourages better awareness and planning.
Now whether or not becoming a better wow player is truly personal progression, i don’t know, that’s a separate topic.
there’s nothing exciting about getting 2 shot by an invisible dude 20 levels above you. For this to be exciting assumes a level of engagement and interactivity that doesn’t exist.
Take other players out of the equation, let’s have a server where each server tick there’s a 2% chance your character dies for no reason and you get to run back from the graveyard. For the following 10 minutes after respawn the chance of a repeat occurrence is elevated to 30%.
So exciting!
And then your plans don’t matter when disparities in class mobility and visibility remove your considerations from the equation.
In your reality. That’s what gamers like you have done to many games. Its all about the reward and not the journey. This is why retail is a failure and classic is not.
Literally the only difference, the only difference, between PvE and PvP realms is that you get ganked on PvP realms. Ganked. Spawn camped. Graveyard camped. Locked out of questing, or even out of playing the game. That’s it.
So basically all that a PvP realm has to offer are PvP encounters that are unfair, exploitative and obnoxious. I played a PvP realm on retail, and now I play on a PvE realm for Classic. 100% better experience, period.
More power to you but clearly a lot of classic players disagree. Not only that but the whole reward argument disappears in phase 2 with the honor system.
I love BGs as much as the next guy, but world PVP is just as fun and more random. Also, I have to question anyone that comes to classic and thinks that PVE is the only way to go. Seriously? I mean, PVE isn’t exactly the strong point of classic.
Nice job moving the goal posts. Went from “world PvP is nothing but toxic and no progression can be had there” to “oh well the progression you make there doesn’t matter because rogues have stealth and warriors have charge” Lol k bud.
I get it dude, you don’t like PvP. You’ve had nothing but bad PvP experiences and you want nothing to do with it. Fine, cool, you do you… but why are you on this crusade to prove that PvP is inherently bad? Just roll a PvE realm and never que up for a bg when they add it in. What’s the point of dumping on the fun that others find in the game?
I was going to lurk until this comment. While I do agree with you…
I also think that just maybe you should just play on PVE servers. PVP games just don’t seem to be your cup of tea.
League of Legends is very popular. Probably not as popular as it used to be but it’s still popular. And that is one game that is very unbalanced.
^Yep. League of Legends is surviving fine. In fact, players are asking for League of Legends Classic and they are using WoW Classic as an example that classic LoL could be successful.
In fact, here is a list of more balanced PVP games that I think might suit you better. Yes, I’m about to quote myself.
You are rewarded with honor for PvP (not currently, but in phase 2 or 3) which, if you earn enough, allows you to purchase rewards. I think rewarding xp for PvP is awful and would further encourage camping.
It is just as fun when you are the ganker, the one who has the clear advantage. But this is made up for when YOU are the one being ganked, because you are trying to finish a quest or kill a world boss or rare spawn and someone just kills you and steals your kill before you are forced to run half a zone to your corpse only to get camped by them and forced to take rez sickness.
BGs are more fun and fair for everyone. Even if you lose you still got a bunch of honor compared to world PvP, and didn’t have to sacrifice tons of durability or time running back to your corpse in order to do so.
Also, it isn’t just for PvE. But like I said, I will be enjoying PvP plenty in BGs, where there are objectives and much better rewards, rather than getting high off of killing someone 6 levels lower than me who was just trying to quest.
So if classes aren’t perfectly balanced then it’s an inherently toxic PvP environment?
Yeah I’m thinking all these folks telling you to stay in PvE are right. Just seems like PvP might not be your cup of tea.
For the record, I’ve always enjoyed structure PvP more than world PvP personally. Bgs and arenas are much more fun and rewarding to play IMO. Not trying to say world PvP is the best mode, just simply saying that your hypothesis that all PvP is inherently toxic and bad for the game isn’t true.
