Thought I’d post something since it’s maintenance lol. I just came back last week or so. Is it worth starting professions at this point if your intention is to make gold? Or is farming mats for others more advantageous at this point?
I’m guessing an influx of people will return after the patch and people will be keen to start buying things again to aid their end game content.
So is it better to level for example my alchemy or to sell to other alchemists instead? I have no plans to do pve content, so I don’t need to worry about creating stuff for myself. My goal is purely gold focussed.
(Also, I’m aware I missed the wave of gathering gold in the first weeks of the expansion. Also I have all professions, alchemy was just an example).

Knowledge points are easy to catch up on, especially for gathering professions. And we’re about to have a whole set of new craftable options, and again later on as we’re still not yet to the halfway point of the lifetime of this expansion.
So… sure, get to it if you want.

Every few days I’ll check the patron crafting orders to see if there’s one that has either all mats provided or only asks for mats I have plenty of extra for, and do them. That’s all the care I have for professions now.

the patron orders refresh daily, so if you’re after KP, it helps to check once a day.

I have every profession which is why I guess it’s overwhelming lol. Maybe will stick to tailoring/enchanting and gathering profs for now. I just turned 80 yesterday for reference lol

I just focus on the 3 three that impact my characters the most:
- Alchemy, cause potions and flasks used always.
- Engineering, cause boom.
- Blacksmithing, cause smash.
I can’t imagine doing aaaaaaaaaall the patrons and weeklies for every class, every day/week. I would burn out.

I will tell you from my experience in DF and in this xpa: profession equipment and accessories level 564. The sale is not cross realm and is sold until the xpa ends. You never work at a loss, they put it in the AH and you check when you can to replenish.
I also have all the professions and the sale of these items was and is profitable.

With enough work you could be at a point where you could craft 636 items by the end of the season on multiple profs if you have the time and will to do it.
This would take you into next season being able to use that season’s crests to upgrade those items through recrafting them with the proper enchanted crests.
Profs are super worth it right now for just about everything at end game. Maybe more than ever before.
They are just a pain in the rear in my personal opinion.

alchemy is fine for the extended flask duration. i make a bit of gold with alchemy and enchanting but don’t bother with work orders so it’s just maintenance gold basically.

Yes, they are still viable. You won’t make the gold you would have made or be as self-sufficient yet as you would have starting from launch, but you will catch up eventually.

I like it, though some professions seem to have an easier time with things than others. Blacksmithing is easy, while I find Jewelcrafting, Inscription, and Alchemy to be a bit of a drag.
Thing is, with the Warband Bank, you’re not tripping over server/faction barriers, so you can funnel materials to their respective consumers with ease.

I did two blacksmiths this season and a JC. I thought both of those were kind of easy but enchanting was pretty tedious. So much disenchanting…flashbacks intensify

Enchanters get boned hard this expansion for several reasons. The most glaringly obvious being the unnecessary addition of 3 levels of mats, no way to shatter purple crystals and the patron orders obsessed with either illusions or wands/rods they don’t send you mats to construct.

… I think I leveled most of mine by just doing the Gold reward dailies and buying mats. :x
That and Tailoring. But hey, big bags for everyone.
I do as well. I bet we share similar nightmares.

What, you don’t enjoy spending 100k to craft an epic sword at tier 3 with no mats for 30 acuity?

Sure. i still make 120k gold every 4 days with concentration
This is the bit that cuts the deepest. I am drowning in purple crystals and always short of dust.

You’re pretty much FORCED to take the illusions tree because 90% of the patron orders are for them, plus they never give KP. Just acuity. I check the patron orders on my engineer and I have 15 different ones for various things and different rewards. Check on my enchanter and its 4-5. 4 are always for illusions and the last one is for a wand or crest, neither of which are worth making. Blizz definitely had a chip on its shoulder against Enchanting this expansion it feels like.
