The only time I see mini-PCs being used viably is when they’re being used exclusively to place the workload of livestreaming on.
I feel that $$ doesnt grow on trees. My rig is a 4k Gaming Rig with a 42" OLED screen. NOTHING about it came cheap. If I wasnt semi-retired I wouldnt be able to afford it. I use to build gaming rigs full time. Now its more of a hobby/passtime. So I still get discounts on parts. Took advantage of that. Full Retail on these parts would have been CRAZY!
PC market is insane atm
I don’t know the budget, but I am thinking the one who is advising me it likely looking at going as cheep as possible, and focusing more on the “it will run WoW”.
But the one I am looking at is the second link I provided, https://store.minisforum.com/products/elitemini-hx99g-hx100g?_fid=ed6816709&_pos=9&_ss=c&variant=46004291862773
Spent about 1.5-.17k on mine not super sure it was more than a few years ago.
I have the tower for my next build purchased, already put me 200 dollars in with just that lol.
One of those fancy Thermaltake modular towers.
You have to? You the one buying the PC right? Your budget is what you want to spend
It is not clear if I am the one buying it, I am the one choosing within a budget, etc. I am the one doing the research but for all I know, I could be paying for it, it could wind up as a gift or I am splitting the cost.
I need some time of spending limit you dont want to go past to help you. Anyone helping would need that
Lastly if you are being a desktop buy a desktop not something with laptop parts. Laptop parts have similar names but they are NOT the same nor do they perform anywhere close to their desktop variants
Personally, if I am the one that is indeed paying for it, I am looking at like 1000-1500, but if I am not, under the 1000
Here is the thing, the one that is pushing the Mini PCs on me, because he uses one, is telling me the latest chipsets and such, are better then the ones in my last desktop even if they are not better then the current desktop ones.
Well sounds like you need a new advisor because whoever is telling you this? Yeah not a word in that paragraph is true not a single word.
There are all sorts of things to factor in when it comes to PC parts and one of the main things you need to base that around because it’s going to control how much it cost you is what resolution you want to play at. What monitor you’re looking at.
Heck for 1500 we could probably get you an entry level 1440p gaming rig or an exceptional 1080p one
It’s my brother, one who keeps up with this kind of thing, thing is, he is focuing on the “it can run WoW” and thinks I don’t need the dedicated GPU. I have even told him I don’t need a high ling GPU, just a dedicated one
Current is 1080p, but it is due for a replacement
A potato will run wow. But when you step into a Raid or world event with massive amounts of people there you will drop to like 10 FPS and the game will look like stop motion animation. That is NOT lag. Its Jitters caused bad CPU, GPU and Ram Combination.
Me? I have a 4k gaming rig for example and I am ALWAYS 100+ FPS not matter what I am doing
here is an example of the game on a GOOD rig
Im sorry but your “brother” is giving you the worst advice possible and quite frankly has no clue what he is talking about
Hence why I KNOW I need at least a dedicated with at least 8GB.
I might not have the room for a full desktop before too long, so might need to go, if not mini, at least something smaller,
And here is a game test for the one I am looking at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZjMX1o0kf0
That looks horrible no offense. Its not smooth at all. See the video I posted above
For your budget you want a minimum of 5800x3d or 12700k and a 4060 or 4070. Or Possibly 7800 or 7800 XT. Anything else you are just buying garbage at a premium price aka over paying
Budget is one concern, space for the physical tower is another. So I might need something like the mini-itx mentioned earlier.

Not just wow that will play any game at 1080p WITH EASE
WoW is the only game I really play on PC, so might be a bit much think you could come up with something under the $1000 mark, just so I have options in case I am not the one paying for it? If not, fine

If you have room for a mid tower
Thanks for the help, I don’t think my brother is giving me wrong advice, he is having me do the research after all.
I know the downsides of mini-PCs, but for me, it might come down to getting the best I can without sparking a family fight.
You can get a used 5800x3D with a 4060 or AMD equivalent for 500$ ez off FB Market place. Like I said before just buy from someone local where you do the sale in person
Or I can keep doing research and see if some of the claims made are accurate, mainly if I can get 60fps on normal to high settings during raid, I am happy.
