Are new integrated graphics just as good for WoW as a dedicated graphics cards?

I am looking to replace my desktop, it is starting to give me issues. I have been hearing that the new/latise specs on integrated grahics can run WoW the same, or better, then older dedicated cards. I am just wondering if this is true or if I still need to get a dedicated card.

Just as a not e I am talking about GPUs along the lines of the AMD Radion 680m/780m with a processor being an AMD Ryzen 7

They are better than nothing but if you have the choice always choose dedicated graphics.

It’s easy to make a claim that new integrated graphics will outperform old dedicated graphics. You just gotta go far enough back in time to make it true.

All I am running is WoW most of the time, and the computers I am looking at are being made with the latest gen processors and GPUs, like this as the example:

https: //store. minisforum. com/products/minisforum-um690s?_pos=6&_fid=ed6816709&_ss=c

Like I know, or figure, dedicated will always be better, but it also seems like some of the latest gen will be just as good, or better, then what we had 3+ years ago. O, in this case, an integrated GPU made within the last 2 years as opposed to a dedicated made 7 years ago

AMD APU graphics are fairly decent as far as integrated graphics goes.

I think the biggest variable here is, what are your expectations?

It will “play” WoW, but:

Are you okay with lowering your graphics settings, significantly in some cases?

Are you okay with spending a lot of time in-game floating around in the 25-50 fps range, even with lower game settings?

If you answered yes to both of those questions, then go for it.

This is what I was after, I figured that I’d be better off with a dedicated card but the one I have “advising” me is pushing the fact that things have come a long way since I got my current desktop.

Since I raid and do M+, I don’t really want to sacrifice much in the way of FPS.

Hence why I have really been eyeing something like https:// store. minisforum. com/ products/elitemini-hx99g-hx100g?_fid=ed6816709&_pos=9&_ss=c&variant=46004291862773

As far as the graphics card options, it was pretty much:
Integrated:
RAdeon 780M, Radeon 680M

OR

Dedicated: Radeon RX 6650M

instead of compromising on an APU that you really can’t upgrade, have you considered a mini-itx DIY build? You can get normal parts in there without really any of the limitations that you are imposing upon yourself by going with these very small form factor APUs.

While even mini-itx is significantly larger than a mini-pc…you are looking at orders of magnitude greater performance, expandability, and user-serviceability.

That’s definitely a step-up. At that point you’re looking at GPU power equivalent to about a GTX 1080 or a RTX 2060.

I’m curious though, why are you focusing on these ultra small mini-PCs? These PCs, although technically “desktop” computers, are made using downclocked laptop parts; downclocked for power and thermal reasons. You could get a lot more bang for your buck by simply going with a more traditional mid-sized desktop tower.

Also, what is the existing videocard in your current PC? WoW really loves a strong CPU, so you could potentially upgrade to a new computer with a really beefy CPU and then move your old GPU over - again, depending on what you already have.

Really the only reason I could see to consider these mini PCs is if you are really that tight on space that you’re willing to accept the very significant limitations.

Even if a 6650M is “okay” by today’s standards, you can never upgrade it. When the time comes (and that time is sooner rather than later) that it can no longer cut it, you will have to replace the entire unit.

Of course the vendor wants you to buy a whole PC solution that can’t be upgraded.

When the time comes, you’ll have to call on them again to buy a whole new unit instead of just DIYing it yourself.

Ultimately, these mini PCs are not designed for gaming and you are asking more of it than what it is designed to do.

They’re great applications for low-power usage, such as media players, office work, and browsing.

  1. moving to a smaller desk, and space might be at a slight premium
  2. again, it is what my “advisor” (brother who keeps up with the tech better then I do) is kinda of pushing

Desktop: Radeon RX 5500 XT
Laptop: GeForce RTX 3060

One reason I asked is cause the mini-PCs of today might not be what people think. Another one on that site is boasting to be able to handle AAA gaming. The graphics card in that one is a NVIDIA RTX 4070 Laptop graphics.

Even the second one I linked, the one with the 6650M GPU, is boasting on being able to hit FPS numbers like 140 on PUBG, 125 on Apex Legends and God of War, Ragnarok

There are also things like this: https: //www. top5-usa. com /mini-gaming-pc which show that the “not designed for gaming” can just depend on how it is made/what components it has.

Yes technically they Can run wow. But they will NOT run wow well.

If you REALLY strapped for cash. You want to save $$ and get the cheapest build possible that will run wow well? Find a 5800x3D rig with a 4060 or 4070 in it. A guildy just bought one off FB Marketplace for $700 Important: if you go the FB marketplace route buy from someone LOCAL ONLY! Go see it in person. Too many scams out there.

If on the other hand $$ isnt an issue? Have someone Build you a 7800x3d rig with a 7900 XTX (MUCH cheaper than nvidia). I built such a rig last month for someone on my Btag Friends list 5 states away and shipped it to him

Can you tell I do this for a living? lol

Also have them benchmark the PC, that way nothing is hidden.
No Ali Express GPUs lol.

Yeah thats why I told him to see it in person but the benchmarking is good advice

Seen way too many PCs with shells of 4090s but the guts inside it’s just like a 1660 lol.

Yeah, I was thinking of posting the CPU and GPU specs of the ones I was looking at:

The main one I am looking at now, the dedicated GPU is:
CPU=Ryzen 7 7840HS or Ryzen 9 6900HX
GPU=RADEON 6600M

Those a laptop skews
is this a laptop?

Mini-PC, the “desk top” that uses laptop parts

Nice nice, I have a budget build right now that I bought from a company that a buddy of mine used to work at.

Nothing special, Ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660 Super.
It gets the job done for now.
