Just had a DST drop and the Raid lead took the payout (20,000) and left.
His account is now on a timer, but I imagine he’ll move the gold around before action is taken. How does Blizzard combat this type of behavior? Is this going to be common practice in WotLK?

Those instances can happens unfortunately. I will however say it seems rather rare, there’s a lot of legit GDKP. Many individuals already have no reason to do P1 raids already so showing them as carrier is badge + money and this is why those happens.
I seen it once but that was from classic to now, have not again ever since. Unfortunate this happened.

Join established, consistent GDKPs, not ones made by randos.

Yes. Make use of your server discord to find reliable runs advertised. If there was anything wrong going on in those, people would mention it.

if you’re talking about what Blizzard will do specifically any action has to do with what was said in-game. Meaning in game raid chat, in whispers etc.
Join your server GDKP on discord. Most servers have them, and they usually run 3-4 GDKP’s daily and they’re all safe because of their reputation. If its a random guild trying to run GDKP’s, stay away. They usually won’t even clear the content or they’ll log out with the money as yours did.
thats very unfortunate, but on my server many of the gkp discords and players running them, have been running them since phase 1 classic, and are very reliable, one guy getting greedy for a mere 20k gold is insane and stupid, a proper gdkp leader who runs several every week builds up that amount eventually passively, 20k isnt that much, just make sure everyone knows that player is a ninja, check wowlogs to see if he xfers anywhere, that account will be blackballed forever, so what, 20k aint that much, thats the price of one vendor mammoth in wrath, its an idiot move by a guy who probably plans to just quit frankly.
I’ve literally never heard of this happening on my server, usually its the loot being stolen, or bids ended too quickly for rival bidders to get a chance etc, not the gold itself, gold is largely meaningless thanks to the efforts of botters and gold farmers.
Ones that run GDKPs from discord can get away with just taking stuff and logging . Theres no record of it on any blizz chat channels so nothing blizz can do about it .
Only way to be safe is make sure every thing is done in a chat channel in game .
Even doing things in chat channels is not making it safe.
The most that dose is allows you to report a scam this will get the gold taken away from the ninja but it will not get it past out to those in the raid it’s just lost. Blizzard will not get involved in loot issues and this is exactly that a loot issue. While the gold if “hidden” simple as tossing it into a gb owned by a “freinds” account than deleting the alt that tossed it in so he has no part of that guild anymore. To make it no longer his funds will make blizzard not take it away in many cases. Thou they have been known to delete peoples gear professional skills and items up to the value plus a bit of what is owed. Even in the extreme case deleting a toon I have seen proof of before from one guy that bought 40k and spent/hid the gold so couldent be taken had 3 lvl 70 toons all with epic flying deleted as part of his settlement.
This will get involved in scams by taking away the gold from the scammer and in the case of trade scams (this is not a trade scam) pass it back. As this is a loot scam the only result will be the loss of the loot taken nothing more.
Good Gdkps do post on chat that it’s a gdkp min bid and rules at the start via a macro and keep bidding in chat. If someone refuses to do that at start would be leaving. This only allows you to reports scam thou it will not get you the gold back. As such rep is the most important thing to gdkps. And for a good gdkp with rep 20k is nothing he’ll that hardly gets you one good item. In fact it’s not even the min bid on many items.
Only an idiot would steal 20k gold and think that’s a lot. Too many potential risks. Your reputation is ruined. Blizzard can ban you.
Black Temple GDKP’s right now can have pots exceeding 100k. Imagine that. Imagine stealing 20k gold. not to mention most things in the game don’t even cost that much if you don’t care about getting BIS items from gdkps. Consumes are cheap. Everything outside of items are cheap.
Of course GDKP’s are safe. If you spent 20k on a DST for example. As long as they gave you the item, you wouldn’t really care if you got the pot gold at the end of the raid.
Most GDKP’s are filled with people from top end guilds on your server. Where reputation means a lot.

Ninjalooting in 2022. People can track you down no matter what you do afterwards. Those players are either completely stupid or were about to quit. Some purples / 20k gold is nothing for the exchange of being blacklisted by half the community.
GDKP’s are manually ran. So they are only as safe as the people running them. They are not sanctioned by Blizzard, so its like buying a car from a stranger. Sure you may get what you expected, but maybe not. Same thing with GDKP. There are people out there that run them very professionally and are a terrific way for people to gear up that have extra gold, and then there are scam artists who only want your gold. In summary: Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware.

Yes, just do with groups with good references.
GDKP are safe if you go with a reputable run. Ask for their discord information and GDKP history.

Wow, this sort of makes that time when I was handed a DST just for showing up to all the raids on time feel pretty sweet.
That pays for their mammoth mount in the next xpac, though.
Never had an issue before, but like others have said I only join long-standing runs.
It doesn’t. This is 100% an agreement on faith between you and the other members of the raid, and nothing to do with Blizzard.
