If we returned the upvote downvote system think it would cut down on people flagging posts?

Seems like it would be the same just with less stuff being put on the gms plate.

thats what is needed in here.
That and hide the report behind half dozen links so noone can ‘accidently’ file reports in here…and then punishments for abusing the report as a downvote.

They SAY they cant do it…NONSENSE…My forums have been like that for years now. My members know to use the ignore first and ONLY report post that break the law, are racist, bigoted, etc…and IF they use the report as a downvote they get actioned themselves.

I rarely ever have problems on my forums anymore…mysteriously.

This forum, however, encourages the flag abuse with how its set up.

I’m not sure anything would help the mass flagging on your own alts thing. They say it’s something they crack down on and yet it’s still a thing.

Way back when we had that system on the wow fourms but it was removed for brigading. I don’t think you can stop that…but it seems a better system then flagging.

People would just downvote AND flag.

People are uniquely petty and will go out of their way to de-platform you if you’re perceived as disagreeable or take a generally unaccepted stance on something.

Lots of folks on these forums like that. Downvotes won’t solve the epidemic. The only thing that will is continuing to not bend the knee to these troglodytes.

I dont think that is as widespread as people think. You dont need a lot of people to get something hidden.

If I had to guess its around 5…and its definitely not hard to believe 5 people are reporting the same post

they need the downvote without that childish hiding a post that gets enough downvotes. Very juvenile to do that. People shouldnt have to open posts just because some kiddies got their guildies to mass downvote someones post.

I keep thinking this community is mostly adults 20-50, I suppose I could have been misinformed on that, though.

yeah, thats why I said hide the report/flag in about six links deep so they cant just ‘accidently’ report posts they dont like.
and mods need to be VERY aggressive at that point in punishing anyone who uses the report as a downvote…easy enough to see when behavior is an obvious pattern that the person is abusing the flag and is doing it knowingly and intentionally.

Some of them I can easily believe multiple people report, yeah. And I don’t think it’s a big issue, but definitely still happens. I took a couple years break from the game & forums but I remember way back then it was a fairly common thing, for some reason.

I guess the gaming community has always struck me as being more intelligent than the population in general.
I guess intelligence doesnt = maturity, sadly.

Bring back downvotes, get rid of flagging, get rid of mods. If your post reaches -50 vote differential, it’s deleted. If 5 of your posts reach -50 you’re banned for a day. If 5 more reach -50 it’s three more days. Then seven. Then 14, then a month, then six months, then a year, then forever.

Downvotes solve one problem but create another. Look at how reddit has become a collection of bubble universes living outside reality.

I can’t imagine forum moderators love seeing flagged posts that are just harmless hot takes like “I think we need more expansions like Shadowlands”. Yeah many of us might disagree with them but that is by no means breaking the rules of the forums.

Way,way back when I started playing wow at age 8 with little parental supervision I would agree. The tech gate really has vanished compared to the early 2000s and 2010s.

Smart phones really opened it up.

If downvotes work the same way likes do then they’ll be just as meaningless.

I could downvote you 60 times if I were dedicated and bored enough.
