Archon Addon

You see me crying about it being a paid add-on? Nope, I don’t care about that. In fact, everyone crying about that is trying to find an excuse for something they know will be toxic, and it’s a bad argument in my opinion.

The part of the ToS that would be a better argument is this:

  1. Add-ons must not negatively impact World of Warcraft realms or other players.
Add-ons will perform no function which, in Blizzard Entertainment’s sole discretion, negatively impacts the performance of the World of Warcraft realms or otherwise negatively affects the game for other players. For example, this includes but is not limited to excessive use of the chat system, unnecessary loading from the hard disk, and slow frame rates.

At the end of the day it’s blizzard’s game. Ion Hazzikostas could run around all day with cheat codes on camping people and there’s nothing you could do about it. They decide who they want to ban and not ban lol.

Wrong… I’d report those as well. Feel free to link them here so people can report.

There’s plenty of examples of paid addons getting shut down. If it becomes a big enough problem for blizz, they’ll act on it.

Don’t forget… Email WoWUI@blizzardDOTcom with your concerns about this addon that is currently charging people .

I will remind you later to download the free version once it released, we should all have this amazing addon.

Archon has ties with WCL which definitely has ties with blizzard. you’re crying into the void. I bet they are drinking their morning coffee while they laugh at your emails.

Archon is basically WCL and they for sure talk with Blizzard.

Hell blizzard generates the logs WCL uses for their site lmfao.

Yup. Blizzard isn’t going to touch it. I’m surprised some of these classic gamer dads don’t know what networking is though, you’d think they would at least realize that their emails go straight into the shredder.

This is actually standard indie developer protocol for any type of product whether that be a new build of a game or an addon. You put it in early access to get support because it’s the best way to get people to financially support your services and then release it live later. It’s definitely gonna be free in a few months lol.

Anyone else notice the only people who have a problem with this addons have terrible parses or hide their sod toon?

Yes that would be good cuz now they just go out of their way to design the game around addons. Its pretty bad And they also changed our UI based off of what some of the popular addons were doing.

More mental gymnastics. They’re not creating a game that is solely their IP. They’re creating a paid addon for someone else’s IP which they expressly agreed not to do when they accepted the TOS.

Don’t forget… Email WoWUI@blizzardDOTcom with your concerns about this addon that is currently charging people which is against the game’s TOS .

I love the addon but i dont post on my sod toon.

Sadge.

That clause of the ToS is very obviously referring to negatively impacting actual mechanical gameplay in some way.

This addon does LITERALLY NOTHING to your gameplay, it is simply a tooltip on the other persons client showing entirely public and well known information about that character. It has zero impact on your gameplay at all.

I wish to reinforce once again, THESE KINDS OF TOOLTIP ADDONS HAVE EXISTED FOR YEARS ALREADY. This is NOT the first one. But, you didn’t know about them, because they have no impact on you and your gameplay, just like this one will continue to have absolutely NO impact on you.

Drama queen.

This sounds like an amazing add on. This will definitely have a positive effect on server population.

I look forward to its implementation.

It will not have a positive or negative impact on the server population, just like every other addon.

it simply displays numbers from a public website in the game client instead of on the website. that is it.

I’m against this addon, but I agree with you.

The community is largely full of idiots who don’t understand parses. Why do top-tier players have top-tier parses? Because they play with other top-tier players. When you have flawless rotations, the only way to truly improve your parse is to play with better players. The content doesn’t even require good players, just don’t be AFK and you’ll find success.

To me, the larger issue is normalizing 3rd party data as a way to gatekeep. “Slippery slope” is generally a bad argument. However, I think it’s extremely simple to imagine this addon being transposed to any version of the game. After all, that would just require pointing to a different directory on their servers (It’s literally a Lua file with a massive table of data. Just load the proper region automatically and GG).

I think Mythic+ Score was only possible because the game already tracked this information. I highly doubt Blizzard keeps a record of even non-advanced combat logs, yet alone the ability to parse this data stream in real-time. In my opinion, this difference between Archon/WCL and Mythic+/RIO is what makes the Archon addon unacceptable.

Here’s proof of toxicity right here. I won’t play SoD unless this is banned.

But youre not forced to play with these buffoons at all.
You’re only exposed to this level of immature toxicity through their garbage posts.

Know what I mean?

Players interact with other players constantly… it’s part of an MMO.
With parses in tooltip it’ll affect random interactions. That’s the whole reason it’s problematic to me.

Nobody is going to take the time to look up every person they interact with on WCL… it’s usually only the people looking for a raid group. If it’s built into the game on a tooltip it’ll affect group invites, pvp invites… even just random interactions in orgrimmar.
