Blizzard and WCL are complicit in their effort to siphon wealth away from Microsoft’s shareholders.
Microsoft’s shareholders paid for this data and blizzard is allowing it to be openly stolen for the profit of another. This is not only a violation of TOS but it is also a violation of Blizzard’s fiduciary responsibility to Microsoft’s shareholders.
Blizzard and Microsoft have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders, which includes many of you. When they get a incorporated they are agreeing to represent shareholder interests.
The one interest all shareholders have in common is our interest to increase our wealth.
Giving data to WCL so they can sell premium subscriptions for $25 is of no interest to us. It doesn’t put food on our table. It takes the chicken right out of the pot.
Microsoft’s shareholders need to eliminate this waste by replacing the board immediately.
As a community we need to start a grassroots effort to oust the current board and install me as director so I can hold WCL accountable.
Remember that the players who might give you a hard time over your parses are sweaties.
While some of these guys are true chads, the stats show that the majority of them are sad nerds. This is also evidenced by going onto any WoW discord and reading their comments or listening to their voices in discord. These people are, on average, fairly powerless in real life and are seeking validation by nerd bullying strangers in a 22-year-old child’s video game. The guy with good parses is likely a database administrator who can’t get a date, a homestuck guy collecting government assistance, or a truck driver who drinks too much Monster dealing with Type 2 diabetes and the suspicion that his wife is cheating on him.
You’ll see that while WoW is a fun hobby, and you’re also likely a nerd yourself, that concerning yourself with online nerd bullying is about as important as whether someone likes your funko pop collection or whether your socks match your shirt.
The key to freedom (in Azeroth) is to embrace your grey parses and try to empathize with the sad, socially stunted weirdo who might comment on your parses. Don’t be angry at them, but instead give them a /hug in game.
WoW and its playerbase has changed over the years. What keeps WoW alive is it’s accessibility to relatively easy content. If we keep trying to isolate each other, eventually there won’t be a large enough community to sustain these activities. Boiling down a player’s skill to a single number in a game as complex as WoW is simply not possible to do in an honest way. It’s not toxic, it’s simply arrogant to think otherwise.
I support A LOT of addons. This is not one of them. This needs to be banned.
Aren’t paid addons against TOS? And yes… putting an addon behind a dono wall is a paid addon.
Email WoWUI@blizzardDOTcom with your concerns about this paid addon. Link them the wowhead article where it shows them putting it behind a $25 subscription.
Paid or not… I won’t play any version of the game that allows scarlet lettering.
It’s bad enough although I understand the purpose of going to an external site, but put it in the game where it could impact every single character interaction, and I’m done.
It is kinda funny this situation, cause the very 1st rule of the ToS regarding addons says the following:
Add-ons must be free of charge.
All add-ons must be distributed free of charge. Developers may not create “premium” versions of add-ons with additional for-pay features, charge money to download an add-on, charge for services related to the add-on, or otherwise require some form of monetary compensation to download or access an add-on.
So we all now know if you happen to have a connection with the higher up within wow development team you can get away with it and some rules don’t apply to you because you are close to either a community manager or some high developer.
There shouldnt be mental gymnastics around this, it’s a paid addon and shouldn’t be permitted.
If they do not enforce their own rules these devs become complicit in breaking them. Why would anyone else care to follow the rules if the devs don’t enforce them?
The longer they take, the more it begs the question whether or not the devs themselves have been compromised.
Okay you guys never made this topic about rested xp or zygor or any weak aura pack for raiding so let’s stop beating around the bush as to why you don’t want this addon to go live. It has absolutely nothing to do with the paywall lol. Just making yourselves look silly here. Speak your actual mind
You are right we should have reported zygor and rested xp and WA packs people were charging for. I expressed my outrage to my friends in game about them but never made a formal complaint.
Also drinknblink even if the addon is free when it releases the fact that they plan on offering premium features to subscribers means it violates rule 1 still. And by premium features I mean more frequent updates.
