Archaeology is the perfect example for WoW developers

I know some people want the drop chances to be higher, but you’re still playing.

This content isn’t even necessarily fun, but people are still spending hours a day doing it, why? Because it gives you a goal to grind towards.

WoW thrives off goals for people to no life and grind towards.

The second these goals disappear, people start quitting.

People say they hate the grinds, but when there’s none, they get their item, log off, make a thread about there being nothing to do, and wait until the next patch.

WoW needs more near impossible items to obtain, not less.

“WoW needs more near impossible items to obtain, not less.”

Found them… the one person who is actually more disconnected from the average wow player than the devs are.

If archaeology wasn’t out right now, half the people playing would be logged off waiting on Cata to come out.

There’s more people in Badlands, one of 100 digsites, than orgrimmar on my realm lmao.

Most popular times for wow are when there’s a grind, fresh servers, rare items, etc.

More things to do is never a bad thing.

If they added 100 rare mounts behind long grinds, people would be online doing them.

They want it they just don’t know it.

Everyone wants everything handed to them and then they raid log and complain there’s nothing to do.

If archaeology wasn’t out, I’d be playing alts. Instead, I feel obligated to grind out archaeology to be able to improve my main. This is not fun. Stop making excuses.

Player has to play game to obtain good item the horror

Gives people something to do

If you dont want to do it, dont

Less content isnt a good thing

Its not like its a phase bis weapon, normal mode drops the same IL, you’ll replace it or get an equivalent the first time u walk in a raid

We’ll have to witness the end result but I assume it’s more about balancing the grind against the engagement
eventually fewer and fewer people will find it worthwhile and just end up bitter
classic mmo’s (not just WoW) had insane grinds…but everyone has a limit. Is Arch the limit? Dunno, but it will be interesting to see.

This level of rng is not “playing the game”. This requires no skill, pure bs luck. Again, I’d be playing the game anyways, because I enjoy the game. But archaeology is just complete garbage and your excuses of why it should be is why we can tell that you’re trolling. Just adding a way that we can get it after x amount of tries would be fine (even if it’s a lot), just as long as there’s a guaranteed objective/goal instead of being completely random.

For me it’s so boring, I just don’t even want to do it, and so I don’t do it. But for sure tons of people are doing it, and I think your overall post brings up a decent point.

This is (imo) such a ridiculous argument or even point to make. For the most part WoW isn’t about skill, it’s a time sink, and so what? That’s literally what the game is about.

You’re going to perform vastly better if you spend the time to get the gear, and prepare all the buffs than if you don’t. And that’s got nothing to do with skill.

Brother.

Grinding for super rare items is fine… as long as it’s fun and engaging gameplay. Archaeology is not fun, nor is it engaging. It is one of the worst additions to the game that was ever made.

Terrible argument. That would mean that there’s no reason NOT to add BPL.

Mmos need rare items. If every item you wanted was guaranteed after X attempts, everyone would have 2 Warglaives, Ashbringers, Rivendare Deathchargers, nothing would be memorable.

Its the EXACT reason most people can remember half the items from vanilla wow, but cant tell you the name of pieces of gear in retail.

Making something like Zin Rok guranteed after a little while would turn it from a weapon you see and go “Damn, that weapons sick, he probably grinded for that”. VS “Oh, a 359 weapon”

I would still be playing, but I would be more excited about cataclysm and throwing myself full force into characters and gearing and such and i’m at the point where i’m exhausted its not fun anymore and if this is how things are going to be cataclysm is likely not going to be fun.

I would be doing transmog runs, pvp to gear my alts up to make questing a tiny bit easier, working around my professions I still wanted to change some to herbalism etc. But now not only am I down what could be considered over 100 hours and 150k gold invested but I don’t even know if i’m going to get either of the weapons I chased. There isn’t an excuse for this.

Legendaries are granted after x attempts just look at valanyr and shadowmourne and how buffed their drops were the same exact thing is going to happen to the legendary staff and the daggers. How can you argue that getting a legendary staff that is going to be good likely for like 6 months, it wont be replaced until mop for sure is easier to get than a 359 weapon.

These items are not “rare”, they are almost non-existent. Also, these items, even according to your own words, are not BiS for the patch or on the other end being purely cosmetic like those that you listed, so your argument is null.

Yeah, they’re actually pretty trash. It’s kind of unbelievable that people are making forum posts to complain that they are “investing time” into getting them and not.

Like… who cares?

You just don’t understand and that’s fine. If you guaranteed every cool item, nothing would feel cool anymore. You give it to everyone and it’s just a 359 sword now. No one remembers it after patch day.

Not “after a little while”. I’m fine with the extremely long grind, my problem is the RNG aspect. Stop pretending like you enjoy it.

Also, a fix for fossils would be nice. About 58% of my digsites are fossils.

I’ll enjoy it when the item pops up. Because it’s rare and not guranteed.

Just like mount farming in retail or xmog farming.

I wasn’t guranteed invincible reins on retail, running ICC 350 times wasn’t fun, but getting the mount to finally drop was an amazing feeling that you’d never have if it was guranteed.

Which it won’t and that’s my point.

Which is fine with me. I don’t feel entitled to have every item in the game

Ok, but not all of us want to screw our groups over. It’s not fun, it’s not good gameplay. Stop shilling.
