Arcane Issues That Need Addressing

It would not take much to bring up Arcane to a more competitive level, most of the PvP issues the spec currently faces are bugs to Potency Conduits and overall a lack of being able to reliably create kill opportunities with cooldowns, low overall damage in 2v2 Arena and tuning changes intended for Fire affecting Arcane without any form of compensation being provided.

Half of our Potency Conduits realistically don’t work in PvP:

  • 2 out of 4 of our Potency Conduits are currently bugged to where they don’t work at all with our singular damage PvP talent Arcane Empowerment, this talent is a must take in PvP due to our low overall damage and the utility it provides in being able to better generate Clearcasting procs through Arcane Explosion without them being consumed by said spell.
No sane Arcane Mage will ever go in to an Arena match without Arcane Empowerment as the spec frankly doesn’t work without this talent.

  • The Potency conduits in question that are bugged are Arcane Prodigy and Nether Precision, if you spec in to Arcane Empowerment these two conduits will do absolutely nothing (likely due to Empowerment’ Clearcasting stacks having a different spell ID to regular Clearcasting).

Lack of overall damage and undertuned cooldowns:

  • Touch of the Magi and Arcane Power are currently undertuned in PvP; TotM’s damage transfer in relation to our current tuning is frankly pathetic and merely tickles our opponents while Arcane Power has a few PvP modifiers from BfA and Legion that make it to where the Overpowered Talent is never worth taking over Enlightened as you sac a permanent 8% damage buff for 5% more damage during a dispellable 2 minute cooldown.

  • Overpowered was initially 40% damage in PvP in BfA but due to the talent getting nerfed going in to Shadowlands the PvP modifier got messed up along with the nerf and is now 33% damage.

  • For comparison’s sake, you receive 20% + 8% extra spell damage during Arcane Power if you take Enlightened.

Arcane is great, Frost and Fire are just the preferred specs.

It honestly isn’t right now, the damage is not impressive outside of stacked AoE situations or getting lucky at the right time with 3+ Clearcasting procs and the utility it brings is not enough to off set that problem in the current meta.

It may not be as insane as Fire and Frost but it’s still better than all Hunter and Lock specs as well as Unholy, Combat, and Havoc.

I’m sorry but that’s frankly not a good enough reason to dismiss the issues with Arcane, especially considering half the potency conduits don’t even work in PvP.

Is frost insane right now? Are we sleeping on it?

Mitch Jones got some big Shatters on a stream once therefore it must be insane

It’s ok, but the amount of setup you need for burst makes it really awkward to play. Touch of the Magi also just doesn’t do enough, and it can break crowd control when people stack which can kill games

Mages want a third competitive spec

Meanwhile…

Hunters want a single competitive spec

Not that I disagree with what you’re trying to do, but seeing this kinda made me sad.

You must be trolling.
