AQ Expectations

It showed 15k players in /who?

Right, as Ion said, they have the best servers available. If you know of any better ones feel free to share them with him. He said that he would love to see these better servers.

Sorry Blizzard can’t and won’t degrade everything in favor of this one event. Comparing anything on a hacked and rigged p-server to what any company does is just asinine. No one cares about your theft experiences, go away.

Yea it is asinine because Private Servers did it so much better. You clearly are just against private servers and are uneducated on what they actually entailed

This is on top of layers, which are server wide not zone wide.

They didn’t actually, as they had to take shortcuts across the board and degrade or outright remove support for other parts of the game during the event, just to support the event. Instancing failed, Eastern Kingdoms became a lag-fest, and disconnects were rampant throughout every zone but Silithus.

Like I said… no one cares about your theft experience when you know nothing about the shortcuts taken to simulate an experience.

Again… you don’t know what you’re talking about and its insanely obvious so I’ll leave you at that since you’re just spewing false info

Go cry on a legacy server forum about it.

Dude you sound so pathetic its actually hilarious. Go White Knight somewhere else

“Hate Blizzard or you’re a simp!!”

The actual game fell to pieces back in the day. It doesn’t matter what happened on private servers in the interim, since they didn’t have nearly as many players.

The reality of the matter is that every character in a given area of the game is going to need regular updates on what every other character within some radius is doing, so the computer resources are going to scale up by the square of the number of characters. Even the most powerful computer in the world would grind to a halt eventually if you throw enough players into a small enough space.

True, but apparently WoW is running on archaic architecture. Other mmos handle players in large numbers in close quarters much, much better. It’s just that over the years Blizzard hasn’t tackled that issue. Instead, they’ve circumvented it with systems like this layering. That’s fine for the modern game where community means nothing and the ‘massively’ has been completely removed anyway. But it doesn’t really work with Classic.

As far as private servers…go look at the last minutes of Nostalrius. How do they pull that off but Blizzard can’t? The answer is of course that Blizzard could. But they don’t want to invest in it.

this is going to be a complete dumpster fire on whitemane.

If they manage to get into the zone, yes. But if they cant even zone in because its full… well, good luck.

Because Blizzard doesn’t actually care, They are trying to put as little effort as possible in to classic, They didn’t want to do classic in the first place, I thought this was fairly obvious with their handling of classic up to this point.

So I missed the gates opening the first time by several months, and now there’s a good chance I’ll be ported out of the zone when it happens this time too. Screw you Blizzard. So much.

You better find a way to make this event recurring.

Actually WoW was developed by a bunch of die hard Everquest fans. One of their biggest goals (That they accomplished) was absolutely no loading screens between zones. They hated when traveling from zone to zone had loading screens in Everquest. And in order to make WoW feel larger and have more immersion. They deliberately built the world around having no loading screens when going from zone to zone.

But yeah ignorance is bliss.

You have 10 hours to get in.

My expectation was to be able to relive a neat event I saw 15 years ago. Now you are telling me there is a chance I may not get too nice. Will there be multiple layers? What is the hard cap number? Seems like another casualty of these dumb mega servers you introduced.

Sounds like a party. I’ll bring 24 friends.

I hope there is some clarifications on the limitations and when the “porting” begins.

On the surface this idea leads me to believe that a lot of people who worked to help open the gates wont be able to see it happen, but instead, will get the consolation prize of bosses in mid level zones (yay!)

I’m still confused as to why this subject wasnt addressed prior to launch, or when determining server sizes. Or if it was, how did it end up like this?

Hopefully this will only truly affect the largest servers. We on Kromcrush are sitting at roughly a little over 7k active raiders, and hopefully wont be too affected by this.
