Hahah they had much more than that and they certainly could fit them in an unlayered Silithus with better performance than we’ll get a chance to see on live.
This isn’t an excuse, lmao. If you can’t grasp the implications of what’ll happen if it’s implemented this way, you probably weren’t planning on participating in the event at all/have no idea what it entails.
It would literally be better if you would let the entire servers crash rather then kick out single players. Everyone’s in, or everyone’s out.
How would that be better? That could result in people potentially not being able to bang the gong at all.
It is absolutely mind bogglingly staggering how few people have the basic reading comprehension to read to the literal very next bullet point after the one that describes the zone limit.
Blizzard is not setting a cap for Silithus server-wide. Nobody will be able to grief anyone.
The limit is per-layer.
If the limit is something like 100 players in silithus per-layer, then there can still be 1,000 players in Silithus across 10 layers (or however many layers are needed). In all previous layered situations in classic, you could always invite players manually and bring any amount of people over to your layer. All Blizzard is doing is putting a cap on each layer so manual-invites can’t bloat layers to unreasonable performance.
Worst case scenario is that your guild can’t bring in a few more people to that specific layer that you’re on, so you’d need to have that new person(s) zone in to a less populated layer and then get invited over there to bring your party in to the less populated layer.
Please, people, just read. The answers are all there.
So I just heard they are going to put up Jumbo-trons in the Barrens for people to watch the gate opening event
Wrong, wrong wrong.
Servers have a set amount of layers, the servers that operate under 2 layers currently aren’t magically going to autocreate another 8 layers just because theres an influx to Silithus.
There will still be 2 layers in silithus on those realms.
And if both layers reach their maximum, new players cannot zone in/excess players are zoned out.
If I’m reading correctly it only teleports out sub-60’s. If you’re 60 and in you’re fine but the “can’t get in until a 60 leaves” sucks.
Edit to correct: seems 60s can be ported out. What the what.
so for those who just want to experience the event and watch? o sorry ported. its not reading that is hard it is when blizzard doesn’t give very much information.
You’ll have 10 hours, you should be able to get in at some point.
Been there done that… See everyone in a week or so.
so for those who just want to experience the event and watch?
The event will be occurring in multiple zones, so if you get ported out of Silithus and you’re 60, you’ll go to one of the adjacent zones that has invasion NPCs rolling in as well, allowing you to experience the event.
The porting only occurs during the 10-hour window and it only ports us from Silithus.
During the 10 Hour War, world bosses do not only spawn in Silithus. Resonating Crystals that spawn major enemies will appear in Tanaris, Feralas, Thousand Needles, and Barrens.
If you’re in Tanaris killing Qiraji forces… congrats you’re participating! If you just want to watch, you can watch the chaos in these zones as well.
This is much better than the 2-3 hours of crashing that occurred on Gorefiend when we rang our gong so many years ago.
Pretty sure you once again are entirely missing the point, which is absolutely mind blowing. Zones in an mmo shouldnt be treated like an instance. They have layering and could use it here but instead they chose the dumbest possible option.

If they used layering, they would have receieved the same backlash. I think Blizzard did the right thing here.
Often times it feels like they cannot win with the classic community, so they probably should just do whatever they think is best at this point.
There’s no excuse that amateurs did this event better than a multi billion dollar company
I didn’t play on private servers because i follow the laws, so I have no idea how much better they handled it. But I’m going to assume that private servers didn’t hve anywhere near the amount of players that the official blizzard servers have.
Ion said in a recent interview that they operate on the best servers availble, and that if you know of any better servers he would love for you to share them with him.

They had 15k on at AQ launch on the last few. There was barely any lag and no server crashes. Also your comment about respecting the law was so cringe I almost fell over. That was so lame to point out I cannot even describe it.
Zones in an mmo shouldnt be treated like an instance.
This is your opinion, not a hard and fast rule. The purpose of instances is to grant people the opportunity to experience content away from a zerg of morons all standing around spamming skills to tag an NPC. Temporarily turning a single zone into a soft-instance for a whopping 10-hours, with content available for the same event in multiple other zones, is not the grand absurdity you’re making it out to be.
Get over it.
They had 15k on at AQ launch on the last few.
How do you know they had 15k? 15k across the entire game? How do you know how many players classic has/will have for the gate opening?
Because when you /who it showed the entire population. There is no excuse for Blizzards pathetic server infrastructure
