That’s actually part of my larger speech on this topic: The fact that if someone actually wanted to make a big deal about having an ORIGINAL item (and not from, say, the BMAH or acquired at a later date), that system is already in the game.
By Achievements.
When you get these rare items, they’re marked, dated, and timestamped by Achvs. So if your precious little ego just has to know if I have a REAL Swift Zulian Tiger, or I just paid Max on the BMAH … all you have to do is look at my Achv and you’ll know.
There is literally no reason to keep rare digital items for more than 5 years.
People can’t find reasoning in this forum because internet annonymous… “I care only about the mt and nothing else because the MT is something I only want… not removed content” now that blizzard granted the wish they arent still happy because they are still not getting what they want.
A fine example. So let’s have a thought-experiment:
It is just a plain, basic fact: the number of “Invincible’s” out there is ONLY going up. Mounts are never taken away from a player. Once acquired, you always have them. (disregard people quitting, it wouldn’t matter if they had it or not at that point)
So… as more and more and more and more people get it, does that matter to you? Will there come a point where “pfft, everyone has Invincible, it’s not ‘SPECIAL’ anymore”?
I have news for you, plenty of people got it to drop and don’t use it, because there are so many other “SPECIAL” mounts they simply prefer more. Again: Does that affect YOU?
I’d like to hope you would agree: none of that matters. If you like it, you like it. End of story.
Which is my entire argument. After 5 years, that “ooooh so SPECIAL” moment is gone. If people ACTUALLY STILL LIKE IT AND WOULD LIKE TO GET IT after 5 years… LET THEM!!! It only adds to the game, it brings NEW collectors, it detracts NOTHING.
please do. i have one of the limited edition statues of the lich king from sideshow collectibles, you wanna buy that too? i would love if they made more so folks that wanted one could get one
limited edition shouldn’t be a thing, it just encourages people to whip out their wallets to buy crap that they otherwise might not, just so they dont miss out. it’s a scummy business practice
And it’s still having its time. What a wonderful world we live in where Blizzard actually gets something right for once.
… what? What are you talking about? Anybody I’ve spoken to about the MT appearances, and I myself, have advocated for consistent influxes of unique and limited items. The real tragedy is they stopped after Legion. Until then they were on a roll starting in MoP.
When I buy limited edition things, it’s usually because it’s the only way to get that item at the time. As long as I got mine, I don’t care what the rest of you do or have, or if someone has a chance to get it later, or even gets it later for a lower price.
And I’ve played enough video games that have gone out of business and wiped out all of my virtual possessions that I don’t get too attached to that kind of stuff. One day, it will all disappear.
I value things based on value to me, so no I wouldn’t care.
I like to think of this as an episode of Storage Wars, you can have a rare Mr. Potato Head never released… neat? Nice conversation starter but the amount of people that actually care is low and are using it to brag to others.
This may seem nihilistic, but in the end nothing you have really matters to anyone besides you or your loved ones/friends and that’s ok. Value things because you like them, not because others do.
I asked you in another thread and you never answered, is there a reason you didn’t do the mage tower when it was current? Or is this just an alt you’re on and you have the appearances?
I actually didn’t do the Mage Tower because I thought I’d one day be able to use the artifact weapon appearance to flex on people; I just wanted it because the color scheme kinda matched the transmog set I was using at the time, so idc if they bring it back
