I have been trying like crazy to get my hands on a Ryzen 9 5900x. I even had it in my cart on amd’s website twice! When I went to hit the payment button it told me the item in my cart was no longer available. These Bots are insane.
I can’t go on using my laptop any longer I have to do my PC build this week and I highly doubt I will be able to get my hands on the 5900x anytime soon. So I gave up and bought the i9 10900k which is on sale through this weekend only at my local store for 460$. They keep doing random sales on the Intel processors and I’m guessing AMD has something to do with that.
I’m curious to see what some of you all that are doing new builds are doing whether you’re just playing the waiting game or you if you have settled on something else.
Think I’m going to stick with my 8700k and 1080ti at least another generation, but I am not surprised at all in the unavailability of RTX 3000 series GPUs and AMD 5000 series CPUs.
You know that’s really not a bad idea and it’s probably very smart of you because at the end of 2021 is going to be the best for both AMD and Intel because it’s when they are both planning to release their complete redesigns. It’s going to be a great time to upgrade. It will also be the birth of amd’s AM5 socket which is their history proves anything should last you many many years to come. Sadly the 5000 series is the last of the am4 socket
Same - the 8700k is still mostly doing fine if you look at 10600k results. I might grab a 6800 if the opportunity presents itself though. Or a 3070 if its cheap.
As you and I discussed earlier in another thread I kind of had a feeling this would happen and I end up having to settle for the i9 10900k. At least I got it at a killer price though
Well looking at benchmarks it seems in most games it’s not really any difference, and the ones where it does make a difference, we’re either at stupid high framerate anyway (CSGO, valorant) or still way above 100fps
You are right the i9 10900k is either the exact same or trades winning blows with the Ryzen 9 5900x depending on the game. I’ve just always been Intel and I really wanted to be able to switch the team red for once but I guess it will happen in my next build
This is true, but the gating of features across AM4-series motherboards, as well as the growth pains with 300-series AM4, would make me hesitant to jump on AM5’s initial launch boards. I guess I’m probably at least a couple of generations out from an upgrade. Fortunately I got some of my build needs addressed at the start of the pandemic by moving cases, changing the cooling on my 1080ti, and adding another M.2 drive to my system.
I am really curious to see if the Smart Access Memory is just a gimmick or if it makes a big difference. Could probably be talked into an all-AMD build in the future if this feature works well. I probably will wait regardless until the next generation of DDR is supported and stable.
Wow, even HUB, one of the more AMD-biased channels, is slamming AMD for prices on their new chips. Even to the point of recommending the 10700k over the 5800x.
The performance on the 5800x is there, and it has PCIE4, so I don’t really fault AMD for their pricing personally when compared to the competition, specifically.
$449 is a little high though when compared to their previous chips though, given MSRP on the 3800x was $399 and included a competent cooler.
If you can cool the i7? There are no thermal issues with the 10th gen at all dude.
I just bought the i9 10900k which is 10 cores. The i7 10700k is 8.
My 10900k is OC to 5.1 out of the box @1.32v.
No issues cooling it. it idols at 28c and never goes above 57c gaming (yes these are OC themrals)
Its pretty much a myth. It actually runs cooler than the 3800x did when gaming.
Issue with Intel is Z490 price is higher than Z390. They dropped the CPU price, raised the motherboard chipset. The value of unlocked Intel CPUs becomes less when you pair it with B460 (only boards with good VRM) or H410 motherboard. Multiplier locked for overclocking and RAM speed is capped at DDR4-2666 or DDR4-2933. H410 VRM may overheat as well.
AMD’s value is B450 and B550 chipsets are fully unlocked. You still need to look for boards with decent VRM though. Unless you wanna throw away higher core count future upgrades. Also, Zen 3 very likely the last for AM4 socket. DDR5 and PCIE 5.0 onwards will be reserved for AM5.
I have to agree 5800X is ridiculously overpriced. Go for either 5600X or 5900X instead.
