Oh, I see.
I tend to look at it as examples in history showing that rich people should please just stay away from world affairs. I don’t think rich people got where they are by being benevolent.

See there is that falsehood again, Blizzard gets $0 tax write off from this, we (those of us that donated do). We do not contribute to anything for Blizzard as we are donating to the charity directly.
Cool, even better. So what are the complaints about this again? I don’t get it.
Yeah, complain about capitalism and Reganomics if you want, but this is a good move for blizzard. I like that they do this.
This is literally one thing they listened to us on. It used to be they would donate a portion of their earnings and we complained (as we do) and they shifted to this model.
I think Ive figured out why a few vocal ppl on GD are mad
In the past blizzard has put charity pets in the shop and an individual had to actually donate to get the pet. If you you didn’t donate you got no pet. Which really pissed off ppl who didn’t want to buy anything off the shop. Even though it was for charity.
Now that blizzard changed it up and took the shop out of the equation , gave the community a goal and gave the pet to everyone once the goal was met, even if you didn’t donate the salty mad ones from the past can’t be complain about the shop charity pet and it just shows up in their collection.
These guys just like to be mad and blizzard took the wind out of their usual rage fest.
Not much of a carrot. I don’t like either pet.
Maybe he donates 100,000 - 1,000,000 times the amount you donate to charity.

Blizzard literally just opened up a way for their players to support a great cause and gave us an incentive to do so now and not at another time. I want to be able to go back to living my life and the only way that will ever happen is if we get out of this current global pandemic, my donation (no matter how meager) will help with that in less developed countries.
I have not gotten the vaccine yet as I’m not eligible yet where I live but once I am I will be first in line to do so.
The way I always looked at it was if they are paying the rest of their employees a decent/livable wage for where they are located. Paying someone less than livable for an area has always been a thing to not like for me though. Historically Blizzard is absolutely awful at paying their lower level employees a reasonable living standard for the region blizzard decides to be located at. shrug
I just looked at it as a PR move
They want to look good to the public, but don’t want to put forth their own money to do so.
That’s usually what things like this are
It would be really cool if the million dollars unlocked the pet and Blizzard matched it
Oh good, another person that completely misses the concept of charity drives!
Lets break down the argument.
As for the Carrot on a string? Blizzard, is not, has not and will not ever be the first person/business to throw a charity fundraiser with a prize for the donators.
And if they did that, how would you move your goalpost to be upset at them for not doing enough? They paid workers to create this pet, they’re offering it as a reward for raising money for a wonderful cause.
Yeah, they could do more, but they’re still doing something great, and you’re going out of your way to find an issue with it.

Could someone tell me what that organization (Doctors without borders) does, cause if it is what I think it is, I would never donate money.
h ttps://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/what-we-do
I can’t post links but it’s there on their website.
Philanthropy is a ploy by rich billionaires and corporations to avoid paying taxes.
Everyone would be better served if they just paid taxes and better wages.
And the OP is right, a corporation asking for customers to donate while they’re raking in profits and not doing it themselves is laughable.
Correct, but do you have a point as this is not the case here ?
Source that Blizzard is not donating anything ?
Never said I was upset. Was simply pointing out the reality that this is a cheap way for them to earn PR
It is, but let’s not pretend like they invested vast sums of money to have that pet made. If I recall one of them is a reused model
Again, I’m not upset about it, but it seems like you are
Blizzard didn’t open up anything. You can donate to Doctors without Borders whenever you like.
This way they get PR though, to offset the bad press about Bobby raking in 200M. lol
bro its tax season we gotta squeeze out those credits
Correct, but I wouldn’t have if they had not started this charity drive. The first time I have ever been to the doctors without borders website was when I donated $25 CAD to the charity event so in my case (as likely is the case with many) Blizzard did indeed open up a way for us to donate where we would not have previously.
I think you’re seriously missing the value of them using their platform and their resources for this charity. They didn’t have to. If they spent less money for great PR and it leads to a massive influx of donations to a great cause, I’d say they’re quite brilliant.
Yeah, they didn’t invest vast sums of money in this. They didn’t need to. Why would they spend more money for absolutely no reason?
And yeah, I’m rather frustrated that people are complaining about this. It’s so stupid. This is a good thing happening with Blizzard, and that’s kinda rare these days, lol. Celebrate it. There’s plenty of other things to make a fuss about.
Also, if you missed it: https://www.wowhead.com/news/activision-blizzard-donates-1-6-million-to-charities-on-behalf-of-employees-320472
They literally gave employees money to donate to charities a few months ago, $1.6 million of their own money, and they provided it in a way in which the employees got to write it off on their own taxes.
