Just happened to be when I first booted up Battle.net today. WotLK Classic is fine, but it is happening to Retail. I’ve tried all the methods listed to no avail.
Same exact thing happening already tried that and everything else. Only thing I can think of is they are having a server issue where we cant get the update it wants us to have.
So I just got it to work
I did the following
- Uninstall Battle.net laucher app
- Delete Battle.net folder in C:\Program Files
- press the Windows button + R
- type C:\ProgramData\
- Delete the battle.net folder there
- Launch Wow using the launcher in the Wow Retail folder and then reinstall the battle net app
Can confirm that launching wow from the retail folder “Wow.exe” just boots up, log in, and you’re fine. Definitely just Battle.net being dysfunctional.
100% works. Thank you!
i am still having the issue.
What’s odd is
PTR works
Beta DF works
Classic Works
but DF Retail refuses to update. I’ve even done a fresh install, and it just will not download anything for_Retail
I was having this same issue and closing the app through Task Manager wasn’t working. I got mine to work by deleting the cache folder located in the hidden folder under the C: drive called ProgramData. Just delete the Battle.net folder in its entirety.
Easier solution:
Look for any battle.net or WoW processes sitting in the background via your task manager. Kill those processes (but don’t kill the launcher) and the update should proceed as normal.
Or at least, that’s what fixed it for me last time it happened to me.
can confirm this worked for me
Yeah… this is dumb blizzard. I am not jumping through sixteen hoops because your Battle.net interface is failing. Fix it.
The following steps worked for me.
- Close Battle.net app
- End all battle.net.exe and Agent.exe processes under details tab of task manager.
- Delete the Battle.net folder under C:\ProgramData. (press the Windows button + R type C:\ProgramData)
- Reopen Battle.net app and the install/update should now work
if i delete the app will I have to reinstall WoW?
This worked! Yay thanks ![]()
If you just delete the app you shouldn’t have to reinstall wow
It is just Battle.net being weird. Like they said above launch it from the retail folder and log in and it works fine. Hopefully, they get it worked out soon.
No you just uninstall battlenet and its files, then delete the folder from program files. Launch Retail wow from its icon - it will then reinstall battlenet for you. This just worked for me. I am now playable after all day of initializing.
this did not work for me ive tried everything on this forum and its still stuck
Same here. Tried everything suggested but it won’t work. Hopefully someone knows whats up. Closed everything, including via task manager, reinstalled but cannot get past initializing.
For what its worth I have PTR, Beta and Retail installed. Cannot access Beta or Retail.
EDIT:
Running the exe, for some reason, finally worked.
I had this initializing issue about a week ago and then found some old posts suggesting to uninstall WoW entirely and then reinstall. It worked when I did this a week ago.
Well, today I had the same issue with the update initializing and not progressing whatsoever… so I tried the same method by uninstalling WoW. This time however, WoW isn’t even installing…
I did all the above and it still didn’t work…BUT:
For some reason, after the third reinstall of Battle.net it popped over to my Classic game…with about a 50MB update for that. Ran that update and then popped back over to Retail tab and it “updated” and launched.
