Haven’t logged in now for days because of how jacked up mages are. I’m tired of constant one-hit death in the new zones. It’s obvious they don’t intend to do anything for this class anymore and I don’t feel inclined to funnel money into a game that is for all practical purposes unplayable for the class I’m leveling.
Not gonna lie it has me pretty down. I am hoping by season 1 it is fixed. I just do not understand how this got of beta.
There are classes and specs far more busted than Mages. Class balance is completely out the window this expansion and it doesn’t look like the outliers would be reined in any time soon. Between that and the absolutely insane amount of bugs rampant in virtually every area of the game there are definitely many reasons to want to quit but Mages doing a lot of damage should be at the very bottom of that list…
LOL mages are at the bottom of meters and wait for it… mages can only do damage. That is pretty game breaking for a class
If you are dying questing as Frost I’m not sure what you are doing. That said, mages need some buffs in some aspects.
That’s what I am saying, lol. It was sarcasm. I said “mages doing a lot of damage should be the last thing on your list of things to make you quit” because they are not doing a lot of damage.
foot in mouth emoji?
my bad
I have no problem with PvE side. Its the PvP. We are too weak and especially Fire does zero damage.
On the bright side…we got aoe sheep, disorient, and aoe stun. . Like can sheep one, disorient aoe sheep another into frost ring. What lacks for damage we got even more CC
I can’t help but notice that most thread starters on the topic that Mages are game-breakingly broken don’t actually post on their Mages.
Case in point, OP is a hunter with 0 previous posts. Seems credible.
I mainly mage this expansion and im enjoying so far
Monks and hunters to me are doing an obliterating dps and im surprised that blizzard not nerf those classes so far.
I dont play pvp but pve as frost im doing a really good damage, top dps a lot of trash and boss. But im feeling that the class should do more damage because im top dps but hybrid classes are very close in damage.
Do what now?
If you can’t survive on a mage it’s 100% user error. Mages have fantastic defensive and CC and is really close to being good damage wise in PvE, in PvP it’s already there. The 20% Lance buff for PvP should have been an aura buff, Frostbolt needs a 25% buff and IP needs to have its CDR doubled or Veins needs to be lowered to 2 min CD. Problem is frost is really good in high keys doing MDI style pulls because it’s mass AoE is nuts and their survivability is great, so any buffs to help the rest of the 99.9% of the game with break them. It’s a poor design problem
It’s not even the best at mass AoEing anymore. Multiple classes have damage that’s on par with or better than Frost’s in that regard and still doing better in other aspects.
The first thing I’d do to buff Frost is buff [Chain Reaction] because 5% is just pitiful for a talent that deep into the tree that used to be 15% before and revert the nerf to [Splitting Ice]. At least doubling the damage of [Flurry] also seems viable.
For AoE I’d make [Snowstorm] generate stacks way faster and NOT fall off after 30s which is just dumb since it doesn’t even state in the tooltip it has a duration.
Failure to use Alter Time is the main reason amateurs mages struggle with the class.
Failure to kite adequately is another one.
I don’t think most mages want to use every single CC and shield and every spell they have to kill a trash mob.
As compared to other classes that can face roll a pack of the same trash mobs
Feck Frost PvP.
Then why take mages if you want a lazy class ?
Strong enough, a mage melt a pack without losing its shield
If undergeared, yes, you need to make some kind of an “effort”.
If clicking on “Alter Time” when your shield is broken is too much effort the for the commoner, then yes it’s better they go to the mindless classes.
I always struggle to understand posts like this and they’ve been a part of every class forum for the better part of a decade. Lol. Mage is actually the most fun I’ve had with the game in a long time!
In PvP we’re dealing with a game where players have heavily favored plate and chain wearing classes since the very beginning. If people are dying in PvE then it could be for many reasons.
As a longtime melee player who’s brand new to Arcane Mage, for 50+ levels I can tell you that the only times I’ve died are when I’ve accidentally aggroed an elite monster or something I didn’t see before entering the area. Sometimes my melee reflexes cause me to make a bad choice and not shimmer away or pop invisibility or mass polymorph or mirror image and bug out to regroup and start another dps run.
We are escape artists with more than adequate dps. We have solid access to CC, invisibility and since I have always treated Mirror Image as a defensive ability I have never had an issue surviving and escaping an encounter that goes south. We have a lot of creative ways to survive encounters and make things dead.
I for one would not be having this much fun on a ranged dps toon if I was just a turret spamming a few high dps abilities. If I want that I will just go back to melee.
Cheers!
First time ever playing as caster (and i play this game for a decade)
im an average player, not too bad, not too good. And my feeling is that mage survivor is much more superior than paladin that was my main for long years…
Mobility - im loving it
survivor - i died sometimes cause i forgot to blink or ice block LMAO but im getting the gameplay but in general is really good to me, i usually mob many more than when i play paladin and aoe AF to kill mobs leveling
m+ i just lost dps to hunter from my core… jesus christ hunters have insane damage
