They turn the game into a worthless/meaningless waiting game that puts you in timeout often.
Someone “burned” your raid lockout? haha good luck wait til next week.
Missed a week? haha fall behind someone else who is playing 3x less but doesn’t miss a week.
Here’s your unspecial catalyst tier hand-me for playing out your subscription time, because raid lockout system is so trashy but our devs are too afraid to replace it with proper depreciating returns.
There just is so little agency with your own progress and the devs just try to troll bait with filling content with cosmetics thinking it’ll compensate for how atrocious the non-interactivity in your progress for player power is. They designed their systems to pretend there is agency with low level gear bait, aka devs just troll players.
Although I suppose this is a smashing success and intentional to make people feel like it’s not engaging or worthwhile to play while still trolling players with locked cosmetics, to steer players into pay to avoid playing just like mobile games, aka the WoW token for boosts.
Oh and don’t get me started on the botting plague that additionally removes any desire to do open world farming. Or that PvP is infested with rotation bots and botting boosters blizzard doesn’t want to license an actual anti-cheat to properly manage and curtail. Just empty PR statements and gaslighting while they pull a minimum effort for the past 20 years. There are known vectors bots have been using to bypass warden and blizz hasn’t been detecting them for years.
Blizzard just doesn’t care. They’ll say they do for PR reasons, but they absolutely don’t. They have to do the same timegate+FOMO shtick as always as they’re afraid they’ll be fired by c-suite corporate if they don’t troll players into touching what they worked on or if they don’t follow the live service game template design. I started in 2022 and current xpac end game is just dog poop trash. I play legacy xpacs solely because of it.
In that case, you have actually ascended. That is the peak way to enjoy some sort of power progress in this game.
I get why they do timegating, it makes players play longer to get what they want and this is still a subscription-based game. Not enough people quit over it to offset the extra months people p(l)ay, so they make more money. Nowadays, decisions in WoW are made to optimize profits, not necessarily to optimize the player’s enjoyment.
Raid lockouts existed before mobile games. Great Vault is just a bonus roll that we’ve had since Mists. Creation Catalyst is BLP for Tier and it’s also great for transmog. DF professions aren’t in any way, shape or form a mobile game. They brought back RPG elements and gave people choices of what they want to specialize in. And timegating has existed since BC.
This is one of the weirdest takes I’ve seen today.
The one thing that was a mobile game-like afk and wait type interactions, is the one thing they scrapped for DF: the dang mission table.
We’ve had raid lockouts since forever and professions have had cooldowns for a while now too (you dont remember there being a daily cooldown on certain reagants?)
I can take a whack at what they are getting at, Sendryn.
I play WoW and my sis plays… Game of Sultans. Of all the things to invest your time into and become great at….
ANYWAY I occasionally ask her about it and there are activity lockouts too and I believe OP is drawing a parallel between the activity lockouts in WoW (which are daily, weekly and seasonal) and mobile games which are the same but usually have a few hourly ones too.
This has been a thing since…for ever? Even back in 2004 when mobile games weren’t a thing.
You mean that thing that gives some bad luck protection and guarantees at least 1 piece of loot as long as you play? Why is that bad? How is that a mobile thing?
Again. What’s wrong with being able to convert your gear to tier gear? It’s bas luck protection and catch up protection.
Y’all are reaching to complain these days. Professions aren’t a mobile game like feature. What we have isn’t even that different from what we had before, we just have a talent tree.
But… that’s existed for a very very very long time. Dailies have existed since Vanilla. So have raid lockouts. That’s before mobile games were a thing.
And professions? The only thing that’s gated is profession knowledge, which, unless you’re trying to min max professions to swindle everyone out of their gold early on… is completely irrelevant and unnoticeable.
I just can’t wrap my head around complaining about this type of thing in an MMORPG. Time gates exist and have always existed and have good reason to exist. But it’s much less than what we used to have. Or did everyone forget about Legion, which had so many time gates, people flipped their lids?
When I think of mobile games I think of those games that have ads and you go from level to level catching candy or deleting groups of things, or whatever. I don’t get the point as I seem to be able to play them indefinitely and the repetitive ads between the levels just make them unplayable. I can often finish the levels faster than it takes to watch the next set of ads, which were just for more games, mostly. And none of them seem to offer an ad-free option, which I might actually pay for.
this doenst seens right, you know…mmo’s are supposed to be…the more you spend your time playing, the further you advance in the game.
‘blah but i dont have enough time’ so we can have catch up system but if someone WANT TO PLAY THE DAMN GAME, LET THEM PLAY, i feel like iam punished for wanting to continuous play the game, they incentive me to just wait for a tuesday, every first weeks of a new season i feel this way…why do we have conquest cap for example? i wanna play bro, so simple…
They’re almost certainly transitioning this game to not need a keyboard and mouse someday. And that means they need more dialog boxes that you can interact with on a touch screen.
