I think the dumbest one I’ve heard is a 50-something lady who called the 911 emergency line like 5-6 times and had cops respond to her house because she was lonely and “wanted a husband”
The operator informed her that it’s an improper use of the emergency line since being lonely isn’t an emergency (obviously), but she did it a few more times anyway
I think she spent a few days in jail from what I remember

Yes, very.
My husband and I are in southwest Wisconsin, It’s -3 right now and by 7AM tomorrow it’s supposed to be -15 not counting wind chill. With wind factored in, it’ll be -25 to -30.
I need a heated blanket I’m over this.

The only thing I hated when I lived down south where I lived… They wouldn’t spread sand. Something you’d think they’d have around for when they pour cement… but small pebble rock. I wouldn’t drive for that reason. I grew up in ice and snow and know how to get around. But getting a rock in the windshield is a no bueno.

Now 17F, with wind chill down to 4F.
Currently -16. Just another day where the air hurts our face.
Not me, I am one of the many people who play this game from locations in the Southern Hemisphere, where it is Summer.
So nice and warm in my tshirt with a nice breeze coming through the door. Though I did check on FB for a friend of mine living in Sth Dakota who is experiencing her first big winter chill. Not evying her that, frankly.
Snow… brrr…likes my toes warm thankee.
Same here -16
Not too bad that the winds died down alot but still…wooooffff
Here where I live in NY we pay a lot of taxes for snow removal (the highway dept has a lot of money put into it) and such so I’ve never been to uncomfortable with it. The roads are always in tip top shape. It’s quite nice, really.
Over here in Colorado they don’t plow side streets despite the high cost of living … and once the snow “packs down” from cars driving over it and then freezes it’s not uncommon for these massive 6"-7" tall ice “mounds” or “furrows” to form right in the middle of said side streets and then stick around for weeks
Last year was pretty bad in my neighborhood (a criss-cross of “side streets”), and the sun barely came out for 2 months so the ice mounds/ruts just stuck around
One of my neighbors damaged the transmission pan on his low-to-the-ground economy car. He was driving down one of the nearby side-streets when he heard a big CLUNK from underneath. He took a peek underneath when he got home and saw a big ole dent in the transmission pan with some minor dribbling from the dent
Even outside of winter they don’t really fix potholes around here either lol… just very poor service overall when compared to the relatively high cost of living
Meanwhile, I hear places like Chicago and Michigan and New York do actually plow their side-streets properly - must be nice
Depending on how bad side streets get you basically need a lifted/jacked up “Diesel-bro” truck or a high ground-clearance SUV Those rock-solid ice “mounds” (…that just linger in the middle of the street) can easily damage the underside of a typical sedan or smaller car

The side streets around where I live get plowed, but they always prioritize more active routes first and get around to a lot of the side streets a day or so after the storm. By that point, the neighborhood has largely taken care of itself.
I’m always cold. I have no personal insulation. I’m only comfortable when it’s 20°C or more.

I woke up cold this morning. I thought it was just the bedroom, but the whole house was cold. I looked at the thermostat and saw a cat had knocked it off the module it attaches to.

Time to get a space heater!
We used to have a little box next to the thermostat, which is right over a shelf. That box kept a cat that would sleep up there from resting its butt up against the thermostat, which would keep the heat from coming on.
That cat died, and the other cats don’t go up on that shelf much. If it happens again I’ll put a guard up to block them.
