Sooo I’ve been called a hipster because I like to try to excel at the specs no one plays, like rn I play survival Hunter and feral druid. I’ve done things on retail when I was bored like tanking dungeons in fury or frost dk, and sometimes outdpsing people as a healer by catweaving. I’m just wondering if there are any unique or less known builds in classic for PvP and dungeons that aren’t on retail anymore.
Tanking Shaman. Shield spec and defense! Plus I feel Frost Shock generates a high amount of threat.
Not as much as earth shock. But still, I’ll try tanking dungeons as enhance shaman when playing with friends
Elemental mage
There are alot of builds that are certainly playable. They just aren’t the best, or even in the same league as other builds. Some of them are fun to mess around with. They just aren’t what I would choose for my main.
Rockbiter Weapon and Earth Shock, I believe. Especially if you get Stormstrike, then that buffs your next 2 Earth Shocks by 20%.

Heaps of guides for weird/obscure specs across many classes.
You could try an axe throwing warrior. Probably wont take up a ranged dps spot though
I’m rolling mage which has a ton of differen builds. Elemental is super cool 0/24/27, but I’m gonna try out a 21/11/19 which is a Shatter PoM Pyro build. Mainly to roll around and one shot people!!
Same here. For levelling, i’ll be dual frost/fire build. For both trees, I want the faster casts, higher crits/damage, extended ranges, etc. Open with a frost bolt to slow, then fire the rest. Should make questing/levelling more fun.
By the time I get to 50-60 I’ll start thinking about respec’ing.
0/18/33 mage
fire only specced to use fireblasts that will stun and ignite if crit
30% mana back on fire/ice crits
with shatter ill be able to shoot a frostbolt followed by an instant fireblast which both will likely crit since both hit while enemy is frozen
good for single target mob farming or pvp/5 mans
capable in raid as frost but no winters chill
another option is 11/9/31
for more armor from intellect and just have fireblasts stun and do 32% ignite
Sounds neat. I wanted to focus more on Arcane though. So I got a 27/11/13 build. It’s not in level order even tho the website can do that.
I was always a variation of the Mage elemental build back in Vanilla. I will most certainly go with that for leveling and casual PvP but when the focus is on raiding, I will likely go full Frost because that’s what is needed. I did raid as an elemental build back in the day and my guild was totally cool with it but I usually felt like I was gimping myself. I eventually went full Frost once I got as high as I could stand to go in the PvP ranking for my server.
Warrior tank if you want to be real hip. Otherwise just go cluck at chickens in westfall.
Experimenting with different ideas doesn’t make one a hipster, people have been doing that for as long as there have been people. Celebrating personal success and ignoring the contributions of others after underachieving and being a burden to the group is what makes one a hipster, that is unless you were healing yourself while tanking in offspec. I say this as a career healer who has frequently been grouped with people who believed they and their ideas, no matter how ridiculous, deserved to be celebrated and their performance, no matter how bad, was beyond reproach after I had to pull double the usual work to carry them.
Also, none of the builds in Classic are in retail anymore. The talent trees don’t even work the same way. What you really need to know is what sort of hybridization can you use to achieve maximum results. For example this is the build I used to 3-man level 60 dungeons with a Mage and Hunter friend so I could both tank and heal:

I also used to run this one in ZG when we were short on Paladins to Maximize buffs for the rest of the raid while still allowing me to AoE tank on the bat, spider and panther bosses:

I used to pull top 3 heals (time spent AoE tanking dropped me a bit), top 3 damage taken and top 5 DPS using this. The best builds are the ones that allow you to be most efficient at fulfilling your role within the group.
being unique is cool and all. being better will always win. why cookie cutter exist in first place.
which is crazy cause being unique is better in a real world setting
Most classes only have one or two viable specs for PVE or PVP, a few have viable specs for both. You could try experimenting with the classes with crappy specs and see if you can make it work.
In the WoW beta, rogues and shamans were originally supposed to be able to tank(which is why earthshock has threat). You could try making tanking builds for those classes, it might work or it might fail horribly.
maybe my escapism is needing a cookie cutter to be better instead.
Dunno how unique this one is, but it works like a magic assassin.
Stealth around in cat, engage with Pounce for the stun, pop out of cat and spam all your mana on Moonfire while keeping your target rooted. Travel form away from anyway who tries to stop you and get back into stealth to recover, repeat. Nature’s Swiftness can be used to turn a root or heal into an instant cast.
