Any tips for dragon riding going from west to east

in the Azure Span? I can’t even make it 1/3 of the way before running out of vigor. Same going from south to the north.

Did some world pvp today and chased some crate drops down. Plane went from west to east across Azure Span. Looked up and saw a few people way up near the plane and wondered how the heck they got up there. I had to dismount and take a flight path.

Either I’m very bad at this or I’m missing something important.

one do you have all the upgrades?
two when you do skyward you need to be at an angle to get more speed
3 divebomb a bit to retain the speed
4 use the spin and dash reasonably

See this thread, you can fly till you’re ready to land across all the zones if you want to.

  1. Collect all the glyphs for full upgrades.
  2. Look up when using Skyward Ascent.

They really, REALLY need to add the second one to the dragon riding tutorial.

Even without all the glyphs it should be easier than this.
Make sure you are using Skyward Ascent ONLY when climbing and ALWAYS nosing straight up when you fire it off.
Otherwise you arent going to climb very far at all.

They already do with the second one. It is part of the quest to get dragon riding.

Thanks for all the replies. I said I was either bad at it or I was missing something. Seems to be a bit of both. I already had all the glyphs so that was not the problem.

I was using surge forward instead of skyward ascent on takeoff. I was doing some Wrathion rep and decided this was a good place to practice. I was easily able to reach the top of the mountain that is east of the citadel after a few practice runs. Pressing #2 instead of #1 made all the difference. It was really that simple

I think a lot of us thought Surge was the way to go lol. I had a HARD time on beta until I figured it out and it was only because of a youtube video I saw showing the how fast Skyward Ascent could climb when you nose straight up.
Before that trying to get the higher glyphs was killing me. lol

Surge is really good for “level” flight, Ascent for gaining altitude and sometimes you have to plan ahead and use Ascent instead of Surge. After that the key is to not let yourself lose momentum. Keep 1 or 2 vigor in reserve and as you fill your 3rd to use Ascent.

To get out of azure span, I spend everything fast to get up high, then angle a bit down for never ending restore and use Shyward to keep altitude over the time, makes it pretty much endless flying.
