Jump into it headfirst and have fun. Discover things as they come. Don’t worry much about choosing a job (class) since your character can do all of them if you so choose.
I absolutely love it. It’s renewed my love of MMOs. I have nothing bad to say about WoW - I did some 900 days /played here, so I’d be a hypocrite to bad-mouth it - I just got bored. Such is life. I have no hard feelings.

Do the fates you come across. Stick with one job until you have extra time to do something new, or keep a few jobs at the same level, as you cannot progress in the story without being certain levels. Make the character you want, because the stat difference is extremely minimal. Don’t buy the expansions until you get to them.
They did go back and remove a lot of the fluff from ARR. Thing is they can’t just completely toss it out because it sets up the rest of the story.
