ergh, sorry for sintposting. i realized that this discussion is way more serious than i bargained for.
i saw the “blood elf’s” and my interest was instantly drawn… but it’s gamer time down on ye ol’ pages. try not to mock abuse victims, even for the meme.
I do know. I’ve been in guilds with people who argue that the orc genocide of draenei was deserved. Hell I’ve pushed back against those people on these forums, and sided with you in many arguments against those types. It’s all good and I’m thankful for the apology.
My argument is less “it’s ok what Sylvanas did” and more on the lines of in this very specific case it’s on her. Other war crimes committed this expac by the Horde? Not on her. It’s very clear that the Horde under Sylvanas was a very different beast than the Horde under Garrosh, and it’s very hard for me to play Horde right now.
And it’s not so much that “character does bad thing” that makes it hard. It’s the fact that Blizzard has no reigns over their own narrative and has no idea what is and is not going on in their game that is frustrating. At this point I just want to butcher their narratives and make my own AUs.
I do totally get that, but it’s also kind of weird to see “no, we only meant to exterminate you all, not send you to hell” is kind of odd as an argument. But then, that’s pretty much the reality under Blizzard, as you say.
That’s the one upside in all of this. In the dearth of lore about the actual game, there’s more room to tell our own stories. But, the downside, of course, is that an expansion without a lot of meaningful lore means, uh…not much of a story.
extremely powerful. my story’s got character writing as a focus and delves into the emotional struggles in war. sint herself is trying to become a better person for her wife… for her family. or maybe she’s trying to make it up to all of them, for the things she’s done.
It’s a concept I toyed with on my Pandaren, since the starting zone does give the idea that perhaps the Horde are this nation of oppressed people who just want to do good.
Honestly if they were played right, the Forsaken-human conflict would be more grey and grounded tbh.
As it stands… the Forsaken constantly get shoehorned into evil mustache-twirling city-destroying monstrosities. Some days I feel like it’s because the devs don’t want to deal with the discomfort of actually writing in struggles similar to colonization, and other times it’s because I think the devs just have very little understanding of what makes a conflict morally interesting.
Its almost as if the writers cant write anything other than alliance good horde bad and personally holding that against horde players irl is dishonest abuse
