I’m no New World fanboy, but I find it interesting that New World, a game that is considered by many to be a flop, still regularly averages more Twitch viewers than weeb fantasy 14, a game that is supposedly the new “MMO King”
If you like FF14 that’s fine, but please grow up and stop spreading misinformation about its success. That’s not nice.
New World caters to such a small subset of players in the mmorpg genre there was zero chance it was holding attention long term. It still has that “fresh new” game hype vibe going for it but that is going to end very quick if the devs continue to ignore major bugs.
They represent trends. If a New World once had hundreds of thousands of viewers but has not dropped to less than 15k, it’s plausible to say the playerbase numbers have dropped in a similar fashion (which they have btw). A lot of people tried FF back in July when streamers hyped it up, giving the game a large boost in viewership. Many of those people have now quit the game. FF is back to its small niche section like it once was. Asmongold and all the other streamers who hyped it up have also quit the game. I called this mo the ago but got nothing but flak.
My server, at least, is still full. Even in the middle of the night there is still a queue. If you go to the main cities, there are still sprouts everywhere, and I see them in my dungeon roulettes as well. Does the game have as many players as WoW? Prolly not. At this point though it’s definitely no longer a niche game.
Come Early December it’s gonna pick right up again too. We already have queues to get into servers… I should prolly just bring a book to get into Endwalker (which has over 800k pre-orders btw).
Everyone knew New world was going to crash after the first two dozen hours of the game. It was pretty, the combat wasn’t terrible, but there was nothing to do if you weren’t into the territory wars stuff, and I think Guild wars and ESO does the territory wars far better.
Further good god it was grindy. Like super grindy…
I give new world props for trying something, maybe they can salvage their bare bones games with some updates, but we’ll have to see.
Final fantasy is not a good example of good game design, it’s got more bloated systems in it than wow does, and has some of the most obnoxious railroading I’ve ever seen in an MMO for the story.
FF14 does a ton of things that people complain about wow doing, but FF14 gets a pass because people are just mad at wow for not meeting their specific expectations. It’s laughable hypocrisy.
Neither game is a wow killer. Wow is a wow killer. No other game outside of itself is going to take it down.
These “queues” are actually the login server queues put in place to prevent too many people from logging in all at the same time. The game has the same exact login wait time of about 10-40 players no matter what time of the day you login, be it prime time or the degen AM hours of the night.
Perhaps, but that doesn’t negate my other points. The game still has many players all over the place, including many new players. It is by no means sparse at the moment, and in little over a week it’s gonna blow right up.
I couldn’t care less what streamers play the game; I never watch them anyway. What matters to me is that there are people there whenever I want to get things done. Seeing as how I habitually play in the wee hours of the morning, and see full cities and never have to wait for groups, I’m honestly okay.
Edit: About those streamers you mentioned. A quick google search on Asmongold seems to indicate that he’s just taking a break due to the stress in his life right now, and last I heard guilds like Echo and Limit still intend to pick up the Endwalker raids when they come out.
In fact, Scripe, who I believe is part of Echo, is still uploading FF14 videos to his Youtube channel.
New world has fostered a very vindictive and heartbroken community.
They’ve managed to garner as much hate as WoW over 17 years WITH a rapey CEO in less than 2 months.
Most of the people left on the forums are just waiting for Amazon to make another mistake so they can jump on the bandwagon until the game burns into the ground.
Just browse that forum for 2minutes and you’ll get what i mean, WoW forums are pleasant and civil compared to whats going on over there atm.
Not surprised if New World is not doing that well. It seemed uninspired in some way. There is no real appeal to it, for me at least. One important thing I think New World failed at was making interesting characters, which is key to a good MMO.
uhh i think that crowd went over to ff14 not new world. i think people just played new world cause it was made by amazon and amazon got money so they figured it would be good. i played it long ago during beta it wasn’t good imo but then again that was beta BUT imo if your game isn’t even pulling people in during a beta then idk.
I have a char on iliidan testing being poor. warmode turned on.
the one time I saw alliance (char is horde) i was like what…finally see someone. and we both agreed mutually to let each other be. why wreck a night of xp spam getting in war with the same char who would come back for revenge. I in kind. and…now its crap night for all of us. woohoo…its kills. no…its back and forth getting in the way of why warmode is turned on. Xp stacking with the anniversary boost lol.
also…my char fresh from a level 50 no help (new server so no shared assets…she is so poor she hasn’t unlocked master flying even lol) from bfa squished gear to 100 nor prelude spam…is rocking the awesome 50 ish ilevel. they right now can’t even sign up for lfd. its cutoff is 70 iirc. a strong breeze will kill them. mr/ms druid was okay to let me be…I saw no reason to start a fight I’d lose.
