Because it was absolutely possible to get all the things done and if you were really a good and decent player, you were already engaging in all those things well before anyway.
I 100% agree every expansion should have a “was here and did that while relevant” feat of strength. Nothing should be removed, but giving kudos to people who actually did the things when the things was relevant for potential bragging purposes later strikes the right balance between evergreen content and FOMO.
For something like a title for open world content, I agree. Those titles are good incentive to have people go back later and do other parts of the game when they’re burnt on current content or need something new to do that they didn’t get a chance to do before.
Removing Veilstrider was stupid, giving a new limited time title is just as stupid and giving a second one for later is even worse.
I liked it quite a lot. Motivated me to actually do a lot of stuff I probably wouldn’t have bothered with otherwise, including running Tazavesh with you lol
Veilstrider title holder here. I’m aware and I already had most things done prior to the announcement of the achievement’s removal.
I’m also well-aware that people who started on or very shortly after the announcement were effectively blocked progression because of bad RNG for the Abomination weeklies. As I said before, locking time-sensitive things behind bad RNG is terrible.
And it could have motivated people to go back now and do it to keep people playing. It’s open world content, not a challenge mode. Limited time achievements on open world content is the dumbest thing in the world, imo.
But that’s the thing - people would still go back and do all that anyways. There’s still plenty of cosmetics and achievements and whatnot to go for. Hell, I’ll be working on Shadowlands cosmetics for years probably, with those anima costs
Having one thing that’s time-limited that provides some motivation to do the gameplay while it’s actually gameplay and not just steamrolling old content is a good thing, I think. Like I said, I wouldn’t have bothered with half of that stuff until I could go back a couple expansions later otherwise.
I like my Veilstrider title because I worked hard to get it. If I got it years later it would just be another one for the list.
I’m sure as hell not. Most people I know won’t go back either. Some wanted to go back and try for the RNG portions now, but the title is gone, so they have no desire to mess with it and got bitter that an open world completion title was removed.
That’s like removing the ability to get Loremaster for the expansion once the expansion ends, so that people can’t get overall Loremaster.
It’s open world content. It shouldn’t have limited time achievements on it, imo.
Nope. I’m done. I can’t do it anymore. LOL
And I feel the opposite. It’s a title I’d like to go back and do at my own pace, because it’s open world content.
BUT…
While I think it’s stupid to remove things like that, I respect that you feel differently.
Nothing should ever be removed from a persistent world online game. Increase the difficulty to get/achieve them if you want – just stop removing things.
Ta-da, increased DAU/MAU, the Glengarry leads of modern game success.
Veilstrider was released into the game with 9.2.5, the release date for 9.2.5 was May 31, 2022.
And the release date of Dragonflight was November 28, 2022.
So everyone in this game had the opportunity to start veilstrider on May 31, 2022 and it wasn’t removed until November 28, 2022.
there was no problem with RNG regarding the Party guests for ember court because you could change invitations.
there was slight RNG regarding the quests available for Abom stitching but it really wasn’t that bad. the only people who complained about it were the ones who waited until the last second.
there was RNG whether or not the frog world quest spawned in Zereth Mortis but blizzard changed that and made that treasure chest available 100% of the time, instead of just when the frog world quest was up. This change happened mid-september, 2022.
I didn’t start Abom stitching until season 4 release date, August 2, 2022 and i had no issues completing the entire achieve before October, 2022. (and when i say completing the entire achieve, I mean the full abom stitching achieve…i did all of the abom stitching achieves, not just “things to do when you’re dead”, which is what you needed for veilstrider)
After reading more of the nested Wowhead comments, people were still getting it in 10.0 but stopped getting it in 10.0.5 . So indeed it is entirely gone as of 10.0.5, but I will continue to advocate for changes when something smells.
Yanno, I wish that worked for achievements in general, rather than just FOS (with regular achievements you see the original date in the achievements panel until you happen to redo the achievement criteria on your current character, at which point it changes to the date you re-got it on that character. To get the original date it seems you have to hunt down the specific character you got it on, which is kind of a pain in these days where individual characters as such are actually getting steadily less valuable “where it matters”).
… Also is it weird that I was quite active in 9.0-9.2 (I noped out on S4, my guild never did get a raid group together and the M+ dungeon assortment promised to be absolute misery) and yet I never even knew Veilstrider was even actually a thing until people started to talk about it now?
I did the Ember Court a long time ago, but I basically started the other three the moment I even heard about Veilstrider. Think I saved the Kyrian one for last? Cause forget that noise.
