Yup it needs to be said again, until its fixed, and im not accepting a “theres no fix”. There is. Currently in grobbulus que 12,000+ 4 hour time. Were all paying a subscription for this, we shouldnt be unable to play because “too many people are playing”. I can understand ddos and maintenance issues, but this is a problem created by blizzards inability and inaction towards server population controls. Servers with 99% 1 faction, closing multiple pvp servers leaving only a few etc etc. This is a self created problem by the company. They allowed tens of thousands to transfer to a single server in a couple weeks… come on…
Just gonna preempt the Blizzard is always right crowd; the free transfer isn’t an option because Grobb is the only server that hasn’t had its balance ruined by unrestricted transfers.
So then what, they should hold a lottery where some of you get forced off of a server, and if you don’t like it, tough luck?
That crowd is troll to begin with. Ive been on the same server since classic launch. Have to have my entire guild agree to transfer, to some random server they wont control population with anyways and end up being SOL again? Blizz likes to harp on “the integrity of the community feel of classic” yet has done everything to ruin server communities over and over.
It’s almost like Blizzard might have to spend some of our monthly fees and gasp make fixes to a decades-old game.
I fully believe blizz should just pull the trigger and scatter the playerbase to the wind and balance servers and even out the populations
Thousands of people paid the server transfer fee. How about if youre not going to actually control population and put limits before its 20,000 people too late, they actually use that money to expand servers. I mean just make it like retail at this point where servers dont matter. That was their “fix” to laziness to begin with.
Okay, like what?
Well, they COULD go for the retail server cross-server play. You’d see the Classic Andys up in arms protesting in Stormwind if they proposed that, though. We can’t even get the old dungeon finder, and you want cross-realm? Think of the community!
My community sucks. It’s full of people just screwing around until they can reliably get back onto Bene ![]()
I think the proper solution to this is actually kinda simple: raise the instances cap (more layers). This may be the antiquated Wrath pre-patch, but the engine deep down in its guts is modern WoW, the servers of which are undoubtedly running within a highly resilient cloud-based container management system. Just throw more cores and RAM into the mix.
This system can scale vertically. Easily. It’s just at a higher cost. But as OP pointed out…
Come on Blizzard, just crank some knobs and shell out some more cash to your cloud vendor. You’ll be generating great brand-loyalty capital.
Fixed. 10char
Depends where the issue lies.
If it’s a server issue, pay more for increased RAM+CPU. Any server environment worth its salt should be elastic and should dynamically increase or contract resources as needed.
If it’s the netcode, then they need developers to start taking a look at where the bottleneck is - is it latency? server access? Authentication or connectivity methods? Something has to be the weakest link.
If it’s individual PCs rendering what the server is providing, they should use their own layering tech and expand it. Why not have 50 layers? I understand there are some worries about layer abuse, but honestly they aren’t worse than just not letting people play at all.
There are many ways to tackle the problem outside of “just transfer to a dead server bro”. I left a completely dead server as Alliance on Whitemane and being unable to put 25-man together is just as bad as lingering in queues.
Blizzard is financially incentivized to allow this to happen so that people pay money to transfer. there’s not much nuance to it, its an just anti-consumer arguably malicious practice. This is also why, i believe, they have drug their feet on server infrastructure. They cloak themselves from this by espousing “server community” rhetoric.
At one time i believed it was because Investors don’t like seeing “server mergers” in their news feed, despite it being a healthy thing particularly when using old server tech instead of moving to one big server with moveable channels etc. (like most MMOs today use). I no longer believe this i just think they hate us and want to milk us dry.
If this were the case they’d charge money to get off of bene not offer a free transfer.
The fact that the middle of a US holiday weekend was handled so preposterously says a lot.
they created an enviroment where players felt like they needed to xfer to the mega servers, you can blame the players for this sure but i do not and wont be convinced.
So you know the answer yet choose to remain ignorant, there’s a word for this…
