Probably not the case but some of these documents might be Dreadlord psyops to cause rebellion against the Titans.
You can end pretty much any novel in a random act of violence: some mad person comes by and kills the protagonists for some poorly-defined reason. But whether something can logically make sense as a possible chain of events and whether a specific chain of events is entertaining and fulfilling are not the same thing.
It isnât always true, but if youâre having to explain a narrative youâre selling â politically, as a joke, or a storyline â youâre probably failing.
âUm actually everything you knew is wrong and the people who explained things to you were lying all alongâ is not good writing unless the story has it in mind from the start. Thatâs stuff you have to set up, not just pull out of nowhere 20 years down the line.
Moreover what would even be the point of lying about âYeah sure dwarves we totally like youâ? What would they have to gain from that?
He says this at the end of the Halls of Valor/Helheim raid, fyi.
oh good I was not just pulling that out of my butt, its hard to tell sometimes lol
I dunno. I just like looking at things from a different angle, even if I am way off base with it
They ruined Elune, so now itâs the Titansâ turn, along with likely ruining Elune some more.
Itâs probably not lying and more so a change of mind. Thereâs a vast amount of time between when the curse of flesh happened and Uldaman in classic.
Gotcha and I agree with you.
The takeaway I have from these titan reports is that flesh creatures like the dragons, vrykul, dwarves, etc⌠were unexpected but the watchers as a whole didnât have problems with them existing. However certain watchers had different views to them, Odyn seemed to be more along the lines of âthey can serve the Titans under usâ where as Tyr had the view of âthey can serve the titans with us.â
At some point theyâre gonna have to try and explain how the Light wanting everyone to follow itâs one singular path of order whilst waging war against itâs chaos-loving opponents of the Void and Order wanting everyone to follow its one singular path of order while waging war againt itâs chaos-loving opponents of Fel are meaningfully different beyond color palettes. There is way too much thematic overlap there.
Order bad, chaos good.
Until chaos gets out of control, and the method is reversed and the cycle repeats itself for infinity. Thereâs this theory in Discordianism that the cycle repeats every 5 years.
So, reading the lore book, a few things stand out to me.
-
Everything in this book is entirely on Odyn. We know that the Curse of the Flesh didnât really manifest as a thing until well after the Titans had left Azeroth and been slain by Sargeras. The Titans themselves had no say in what mortals were to be taught.
-
Odyn is a Titan Fanboy. All the segments about giving the Titans credit for all of creation reeks of Odynâs worship of them. Other sources largely demonstrate the Titans as not considering themselves to be the center of the universe, such as the original cosmology chart featuring Light and Void at the top and bottom, rather than Order and Chaos. By contrast, in the Shadowlands we see Death and Life as the major forces.

Not all Titanforged Agreed. There was very clearly some disagreements among the Titanforged in this matter, meaning there is no drive for hive-minds or what have you. Odyn is just an authoritative dictator who threw his weight around to get his way. Had Tyr been Prime Designate, things likely would have been different, with different viewpoints being taken into consideration, and a much more collaborative end-result being produced.
Does this take a dump on Odynâs past characterization? Eh⌠not that much? Sure, heâs been shown to be more of a bon vivant/hedonist in the past, but this tracks with the same treatment he delivered on Helya.
Does this new lore book change anything? Yeah, but⌠I almost think it changes things in a good way? We now know the Black Empire wasnât some kind of age of Chaos, but had advancements of its own. This might be a retcon, but its one that opens the door to vast positive changes in the lore. Until now, the Void has just been this kind of⌠narrative black hole thatâs hard to see functioning anywhere near the same level as other cosmic forces, but now we know it is just as capable of creating and sustaining civilizations. There really is a lot of sudden potential now as far as the cosmic power of the Void is concerned.
Will Blizzard do anything with that? I donât know. Iâm not sure Iâd want them to. Still, its nice to know that the Black Empire couldâve been something amazing rather than some age of senseless chaos.
told ya nzoth did nothing wrong
I donât want to be too nit picky, but I always assumed that was kind of obvious, judging just by the Black Empire that existed on Azeroth.
Iâm sadden by this, The old gods are based on the glorious works of H.P. lovecraft, and most the outer gods are straight evil or things we can not comprehend for if we try it would drive us insane, that being a thing in wow was always cool, the whisper the void and old gods gave to us was a representation of this. but now that the chaos age could possible be a peaceful age and the curse being a blessing, itâs less fun and actually lowers the already lowered Old gods to nothing, Sargeras use to be scared of the Old gods in older lore. Also does this mean sargeras could also be a hero and titans evil? If so does this mean Illidan is actually evil? Since the Keepers lied to us and we did meet the titans in legion i donât like this.
What if Odyn is an undercover agent for the Light?
Isnât his throne also golden?
(Sorry, just thinking about that prophecy about the light bringing darkness or something)
The titans have been heavily coded golden and Odyn specifically seems to use Light magic heavily if his golden Valâkyr are any indication. The really weird thing, though, is that the Titans of course are associated with Order/Arcane, which is closer to void.
This whole cosmic forces stuff was a mistake.
Except weâve never seen the Black Empire as it existed on Azeroth. We did see Nyaâlotha, but that wasnât necessarily as it existed on Azeroth.
I think arcane should have been creation and fel should have been destruction.
Where the light should have been order and the void should have been disorder.
