I just cannot understand why it is this difficult to detect and ban these bots constantly. I am no developer/computer engineer/server person, but seriously is this really difficult to do from a technology/manpower perspective?
I’ve played Diablo 2 for many years and botting killed all the fun in seasons after 2 weeks. Still goes on to day. It is still a great game and would have amazing audiences if botting was never a thing.
Now, its another Blizzard game and its the same problem. Seriously though, I know these are different games but after all these years Blizzard still cannot take swift measures to counter this problem?
I really don’t know - is botting this obvious and this much of a problem in other MMOs where economy is very important? Say EVE online. And to what extent.
Who is to say we will not have a bot problem in Diablo 4 or any other upcoming Blizzard online game. This should have been number one priority since start. I just cannot seem to grasp how the firm is okay with allowing cheating and thus diminishing customer experience in each of its games. Okay Diablo 2 is old, Classic is old but there are hundreds of thousands playing these games.
A lot of people still play man. Why keep seasons going otherwise? Cancel the whole support and be good with it. And yes, it is a 20 year old game. But I am not talking about today’s perspective only. This has been a problem at each stage of the game.
But what I am trying to allude to here is a different thing. It is about obvious trend of botting/hacking in blizzard games and the firm’s inability to take action appropriately. Maybe this is a super difficult task - I don’t know. I just don’t think it is not a priority when it should have been.
Again, if WoW 2 comes out are we ok having the same problem? What about Diablo 4 - do you want it to be bot-ridden after a few weeks?
So either as a company policy you take measures for this else it creeps back again in your other games.
And I just cannot seem to grasp that Blizzard as a company does not have the correct tools to mitigate this problem if not to reduce altogether
Not difficult. Impossible. Every game involving money has cheaters. That has been true for roughly 5,000 years. If you think differently, you’re wrong. If you think it’s only a “Blizzard” problem, you’re wrong.
Huge Las Vegas casinos (with 50 times as much money as Blizzard) spend millions of dollars each year fighting cheaters. They still have cheaters.
I’ve played 6 different MMOs. All of them had cheaters. All of them had account sellers on ebay. All of them had gold-sellers. Blizzard is no different.
Like many experts, you think computers are “magic” and can “do everything”. They aren’t. They are just tools, like pencils. People can use them to cheat, too.
Blizzard is a corporation. It is not the police. Cheating at WoW is not breaking the law. Blizzard cannot send people to your house with machine guns. It can’t put you in jail. It can’t do anything to people.
Most cheaters have MANY accounts. If an account is banned, they switch to another of their accounts. So an account ban only lasts minutes. It doesn’t stop human people who are cheating.
I certainly disagree. Las Vegas cheating is not the best example because it is not obvious to to the untrained eye. Therefore they have sophisticated mechanisms to track people’s actions.
Here, I can just login to the game and find you 50 bots in one hour of navigating. It’s completely the opposite and much easier to identify. You cannot read someones mind as to if they are counting cards or not, but you can see patterns in bot behavior. Guess what you don’t even need to do anything - sometimes even a simple /who search will give you enough info.
Real life is far more difficult because there are no easy mechanisms to track people’s behavior, patterns and their overall thinking. Finding evidence is much harder whereas logging to a server and repeating same actions over and over is much more easier to identify without sophisticated mechanisms.
Not to mention gold selling ads/spam bots in not just in classic but in other online games.
Blizzard is not police, nobody says that but the question was if they can keep the integrity of their games and the community? Is botting/cheating is not seen as a detriment to your own product?
At this point, i can only assume blizzard isnt doing anything about the massive quantities of bots and rmt’ers because they simply dont want to. After all, many of the folks running these operations are running dozens of accounts - and in turn, dozens of subscriptions. Most of us regular players? Just 1 or 2 subs.
Is it a jaded and cynical outlook? Yea. i really dont think im wrong though, unfortunately. At some point you’ve got to read the writing on the wall, no matter how unpleasant.
You can’t bot regularly on a compromised account. Bottling accounts are paid for by the money they generate. When an account is comprised, the people responsible take everything of value and ditch the account. If your account gets compromised, you contact customer support and they get your account back. There is not time to use that account for botting
I suggest you do moe research to see how botting works. But, the short of it is that they generate gold, to be sold for real money.
I don’t need to. I’ve actually talked to people who bot and make money doing it. The first part of what you posted was enough nonsense that I wasn’t interested in reading the whole thing.
yes yes delimicus, we get it - blizzard can do no wrong, all the evidence before us is just a figment of our imagination, no matter how overwhelming and blatant.
anyways, back to the actual discussion with folks living in reality.
Blizzard does plenty of “wrong.” They make poor management decisions, they’re slow to update us on things and there’s a reason I don’t play BfA and have close to no interest in Shadowlands.
What you are suggesting is that they openly and blatantly lie to us and do so even after “proof” is shown that they’re lying.
It would be rather boring if myself and about a dozen others were the only ones left posting on this forum.
I’ve said this many times: bots are a player made problem that has a player solution. Stop buying gold. It’s really that simple. As long as people pay real money for in-game gold there will be bots. Blizzard didn’t make this problem, gold buyers did. If they really wanted to stop this they could impose the strictest of penalties to accounts of people buying gold. I don’t like the bots as much as anyone, but if I were blizz, I’d tell the players “you made this problem, you fix it”. And we could make a dent. Ostracize people you know that buy gold. Call them out and blacklist them from groups.
