Anonymous feature for /who

I’m not complaining about the mechanic. I’m complaining about having to buy another account simply because the ability is just too nice. An Anon feature would just level the playing field.

Yup. It’s why I used it. I maintained a KOS list of my enemies. I would check every few hours to see if they was in my area.

I’m still trying find where you are forced to do this?

If you have a vendetta against other people I guess you could argue this is unfair, although not really since anyone can have two accounts. Most people aren’t going to go on grudge kill streaks. If they do they should probably be on some list.

Exactly.

You’re not forced to do anything obviously. But if you want to compete and be effective you have to fight fire with fire. Its like the whole world buff argument. Its behavior that everyone does to be effective.

but if you are on a PvP server, don’t you want the other faction hunting you down ? is that not why you chose that server ? is this not a good thing ?

I don’t NEED a 2nd account to own people who try and gank me. Again get git.

Plus have you ever ran into a multi boxer? That’s something that is a little more infuriating then someone just 1v1ing you to death.

And there is no problem with that. If you want to compete, you’ll do what is necessary to win. Gimping people because you refuse to rise to their level is the issue. This is the attitude that caused retail to be the way it is. It’s why we have LFR because people couldn’t play at normal levels.

You also need gametime to access retail normally. Without gametime your main account is automatically put into trial mode with the same restrictions (your characters are all there but you can only log onto ones that are 20 or lower).

Since Classic isn’t live yet we really have no reason to believe one way or another what would happen if you try to log into a classic account without gametime.

Trial accounts have heavy restrictions on chat access. You wouldn’t be able to advertise very well on a trial account. If they went back to spelling out URLs in dead gnome bodies that would at least be a more authentic vanilla experience.

Which is to say, if you don’t have Game Time you can still access Retail. There’s been no mention of a Trial account and logically the statement that you can get Classic only with a subscription to Retail, means no Trials.

yeah, this kind of thing is easy if you have more than one account.
gank on.

Unless you’ve really ticked someone off, why would they bother constantly /who’ing you to hunt you down and camp you?

Not to mention, without flying it’ll be much more time consuming to actually travel across the whole zone /target’ing to find you. It’s such an incredibly niche scenario that if it happens to you, you probably had it coming.

I don’t really see why they wouldn’t have trial access to Classic eventually. If you want people to pay for a sub that aren’t currently paying for a sub, trials are a chance to hook them and some may be hooked by retail while others may be hooked by classic.

I can see why they may not bother having trials right at release since it’s a “new” release and will pull people into a sub for at least a month without having to try to tempt them with a trial.

My main point in talking about trials at all in this thread is that using them to do a /who wouldn’t be anymore of an issue than any other way you go about finding out what zone someone is in. I also doubt that they’d cause any gold farming related issue as someone else suggested.

I find two accounts handy when leveling. Log on to the opposite faction, do a /who in that zone and you see who’s prowling there. Won’t give an exact location, but it gives you an idea what to expect.

It still does not excuse the fact that you are comparing private servers to Classic. I do not need to explain this to you, since you seem to have so much experience with private servers but…private servers are not 100% blizz-like which means they have bugs. You can say what you like and accuse others of “ignoring” your logic but it doesn’t help your case.

All told, you seem overly paranoid… specifically about PvP happening on a PvP. Since you’re that concerned about it… then you should play on a PvE server. Problem solved.

Because they don’t want to drive new players to Classic. They want them to get used to the game that has all those paid boosts and RMT methods.

What kind of insane logic is that? I’m not arguing level speeds, hit point count or anything that obviously wrong with private servers. I’m specifically talking about a feature that’s been in WoW since the beginning; the ‘/who’ feature that gives you extremely valuable insight about a players location. This WILL be a thing in classic.

And its not ‘overly paranoid’ since myself and people have already stated in this post that yes this is a valuable strategy. Its very useful for tracking players and wiping entire guilds for world content.

I have no problem with pvp. I win most of my fights and have always been a major ganker. I’m simply stating that a good chunk of the community would benefit from this feature. Otherwise I recommend getting trail accounts ready and take advantage of this yourself.

So trail accounts will be able to do a /who?

I have nothing against private servers, as such. I think a lot of players from them are going to try to import “strategies, metas, and general behavior.” And I think they’re going to amusingly fall on their faces every time because it doesn’t actually work–for example, in this case, you’re handwaving away the fact that anyone who isn’t paying for a second account to play on a PvP server can’t even try to do what you’re worried about.

Beyond that…if you don’t like being camped, there’s a simple solution, involving not playing on a PvP server.

What’s a trial account?

(Your typo ruins the effect here somewhat. To avoid getting a response based on the assumption that I misunderstood what you meant: There are no trial accounts in Classic. No free leveling to 20 because that’s only a small part of the tutorial. It’s all the game and you don’t pay, you don’t play.)
