Anniversary server clarifications

I know many were clamoring for fresh, and some talked of missing BC, but where in the grand scheme of things do the Anniversary servers really fall? There are big changes that era won’t have (debuffs, LFG, etc) yet we’re going to BC, will those changes even matter then? And does BC imply moving through the rest of the expansions? Why run two simultaneous lines of classic servers, where is this going exactly?

They assured us SoD toons will have “a place to go” when the season is over. If I’m gonna sink some time into these toons, I’d like at least some idea where it’s going. Is this going to Wrath? Stopping at BC? Going all the way to MoP? The new classic timeline when the 2019 one reaches the last expansion people care to play?

I appreciate the roadmap release but some exposition on the ultimate point of these realms would be appreciated.

They’re for fun.

Did you forget that’s why you’re playing?

Most ppl don’t care where their chars go, because most players will not log in their chars at a “permanent home”

never thought I’d agree with Flankerr but, yeah, the point is…to have fun

I just want to camp in front of the EoTS Battlemaster in Shattrah and queue up for Mechanar/Botanica runs via RDF.

I’m actually the leader of The Sha’tar.

Took me 27 runs for my hunter to get his dungeon set chest in Botanica.

Wasn’t too bad though because I secretly made a ton of gold because I was actually herbalism.

And there was terricone in there

Their loss. A permanent place to call home sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

The point of “Anniversary servers” is a marketing scheme to simply repackage the same game for the 5th time in 5 years.

This. A million times this. By the time I got on the classic train, it was already into TBC. At least this time around I’ll be most of the way to 60 by the time Onyxia and MC open. I’ll actually have a chance to play in those raids while they’re somewhat relevant i haven’t been able to do that for nearly 20 years!

thank God :expressionless: I’m happy for you, classic vanilla WoW brother

guess would be stopping at tbc or lk. most likely tbc. it’s all for fun. retail isn’t the same for pvp.

with this release so close to cata blizzard again realized. takes two times somehow that cata isn’t fun and was where modern wow is now.

I fully agree with you that in the end we are just playing for fun

But it would be nice to know a bit, because, at least for me, I would def keep playing my toon if it goes to Era (and would be happy to pay for the service).

I mean, I don’t know why anyone would assume someone playing a game isn’t having fun. Of course I am having fun playing the game.

But every other “type” of classic realm made it very clear from the get go where people’s toons would be ending up and why. It’s pretty typical for classic players to get attached to toons they spent months playing and care about where they end up, people asked this about SoD immediately.

I’d just like a little bit of clarification what the endgame is for Anniversary, if that wasn’t clear. Era? Going down all the expacs again? Etc.

Yeah can we please get some clarity on what the plan is ? Yes classic is fun and I enjoy playing no matter what but it takes forever to level and gear etc (which is good!) but like many other people I don’t want to be rushed through the experience and then have all my progress wiped if these servers just progress to cataclysm which I never want to play again , ideally would like to be able to transfer/copy our 20th anniversary classic characters to permanent classic era servers and to be able to play on permanent TBC era servers when that content cycle ends too

If this was the case the game wouldn’t be in the state it’s in. Dual spec, chronoboon, PvP changes, all because people are more interested in their own character’s personal development than the world and people around them.

Illogical. Nobody asked for chronoboon. They just threw it in there.

The PvP changes and dual spec have nothing to do with the revolving environment around them.

If you want to see an example of what kills the world around you in favor of personal gain look no further than sod. Incursions, instanced world bosses, tier tokens etc.

Sod was apparently supposed to “improve” on classic but all it did was create a chasm between people who play for their personal gain and people who play for the sandbox player driven environment. Hence everyone’s on fresh and barely anyone’s on sod
