I accept you jumping in to not actually say anything as concession to your opinion on the topic.
Seeing how leaders in the real world turn out when they prioritize things like “looking strong” and “gaining money/power” above things like “doing anything for your people,” hoo boy, yeah, actually-human leaders are definitely preferable.
You hit me the watch mojo link. I feel so shunned
If WoT is a teen book series what is their target audience?
People who have been teens for 30 years?
Honestly I just need to see more, I’ve never bought that Anduin should feel guilty for being essentially forced to watch his body be puppeteered by Mr. Clean but thats what we have to work with.
I disagree, Anduin for me at least is progression in that it is okay for men to cry. I am not saying it is normal for a man to cry over everything, but men do cry and there isn’t anything wrong with that. I can also relate to Anduin because many of us live with regret and it eats us up inside. I call this BURDEN, reminds me of Interview with The Vampire in that Brad Pitts character lives with regret and hates what he is, and that is what makes him relatable and easy to cheer for.
You genuinely can’t understand why someone raised like he was might feel guilt about not being strong enough to resist and avoid almost erasing the universe?
Did y’all miss the entire middle to late bit of Cataclysm that was about Thrall feeling overburdened and emo? That was done directly under the stewardship of your personal bro-savior Metzen.
Anduin had been unflaggingly positive, trusting and strong for a long time, even after his father died and the universe fell all to pieces. He had a couple of years to have a nervous breakdown, and then Thrall gave him a pep talk and he’s pulling himself together again. Hooray!
Now, I do have a quibble with the story not because Anduin needs to clench his jaw in a manly fashion as is required by toxic masculinity but because like…what did he even do that was so terrible? I assume that there was cut content, or it’s another example of Danauser’s “I like cinematics and big story beats but I’m allergic to filling in the moments in between with necessary exposition” style but he literally stabbed one person, who lived, and then he fought off a raid group, who lived. I think they forgot to or ran out of time to pencil in the lines on the rest of his face-heel turn as New Arthas and have him actually do anything else that he’d be feeling awful about.
Still. Yeah. Men Having Emotions ™ isn’t new to the game, and I’m surprised that the OP didn’t post with his usual alt.
Oh, I love bringing up the time we had to help four giant Thralls with their elemental anxiety so he could get married.
Said the walking pile of bones…
The main characters of the books are all in their teens…what 40 years olds are reading a series about teenagers?!?
Stop…lol. Even the TV series made them all older.
I bet you think The Hobbit was written for adults too lol…it wasnt, even Tolkien said it was for pre-teen to teens.
I didnt miss it, he ruined Thrall and the Horde and that is why I do not like Metzen one bit.
But, I eat souls too… I swear I’m interesting! PLEASE BELIEVE ME!
Just because he’s not a berserker-packin’ man-and-a-half doesn’t mean he’s not “manly” or whatever. You can be masculine without having roid rage.
He honestly reminds me of a Kurosawa character, driven to atone for his past misdeeds and offered a chance to make things right… and with a badass beard, of course.
Guilt is not required to be rational.
Haha just don’t eat any Ally or you could catch our boringness…
you’re talking to a brick wall on this topic.
he does not know who kurosawa is and would not recognize any of those characters as heroes
Personally I’m surprised this game didn’t follow the usual symmetry they have in the past. Instead of having Anduin come back from all that a weeping emotional wreck, have him come back as someone who’s cold and emotionless. Thrall shows up and says “Something dark is coming!” To which Anduin just looks at him blankly and responds. “Something dark is always coming! Why should I care?” I wonder what the response to a statement like that would be. Granted Anduin’s been through a lot, but then again so has everyone. Thrall went through his identity crisis, Sylvannis finally saw the light but got banished for it. Tiranda went PMS all through 2 expacs and now suddenly everything’s alright. Malfurion just kind of vanished for a while. How ironic would it be if the people of the alliance actually started turning to Greymane for leadership because Anduin wasn’t going to do it anymore. (I know I misspelled some names but oh well.)
I like Anduin. He’s not stoic like other leaders but when he’s needed to step up to the plate he’s done it (battle at Lordaeron). Now he has gone through trauma recently, and we can argue on whether it was represented properly in game or not, but he clearly has ptsd.
I will say, though, he can’t stay there as a character. He needs to grow and overcome his shortcomings, and I have a feeling this cinematic was the first of a series (like Saurfang’s). I hope at the end he becomes the bad @&$ leader many of us want him to become…
He will, though he’s going to be corrupted and driven to the brink of madness. It’s probably going to be Sylvanas that comes in and saves him from himself or the old gods, or what ever. I’ll just be happy when they reintroduce her into the story.
Blizzard hasn’t really had a chance to show that nuance yet either.
I know, I just needed to get it off my chest.
I think Tyrande is supposed to have had like… a transformative religious experience that opened her eyes and gave her an epiphany, kind of thing? But to be honest, her story in BfA and SL didn’t really land for me at all and I’ve been actively avoiding her in DF. I think it’s time they let that subplot die.
