I don’t really have an answer for that, but it’s a good question. Since he was the High King, which I and quite a few others thought was a bad idea, it ultimately falls on his shoulders. A good leader should always accept that. He didn’t have to take the position, although it’s possible he was pushed into it through any number of ways. There are many people who have found themselves in situations they hadn’t expected. Especially when it starts from a young age. I work with family and after all these years, it’s hard to untangle yourself from it. Especially if you’ve been around and in the business since you were a kid.
With regards to Battle for Lordaeron there’s also the issue of having to believe every member of the Horde would have stood there with Sylvanas after the burning of Teldrassil. lol
Gone in with a means to deal with it. It’s not like the Alliance hasn’t encountered blight before. What can be used against it, I’m not sure, but Blizz has whisked away hurdles on numerous occasions via gameplay mechanics or some special one time spell, cleansing, ability, etc… I’d never have fully relied on siege engines and utilized the Ironforge airport. We had a spaceship up until Blizz made the Alliance lose the keys or it disappeared in come car park. Maybe Blizz will give us a Dude Where’s My Spaceship achievement for when it’s finally found.
This is why I feel the answer isn’t easy because so much can, and is, explained away with “We want this in the game and we don’t care how it makes the character look.” Blizz is very good at making characters look dumb. lol Also, how else would we have had that cool moment of Jaina coming in to save the day?
If you watched the cut scenes that Ended BFA and started Shadowlands, Tyrande and almost all the leaders disagree to bind themselves to the Armistice. Here’s the scenes. They (Alliance leaders) basically say they’re done with Sylvannas and there’s a target on her head. They also don’t trust in the Horde’s idea of ‘peace’ given that they’ve reneged on it so often see 1:26-2:10
Sorry for my confusion, but Battle for Lordaeron happened before that. It and the burning of Teldrassil are what started BfA. A big mistake was made attacking an enemy and not having a way to counter a known threat that could mean the difference between winning and losing. He was in charge and it’s his responsibility. With regards to the scene you mentioned, I don’t blame them for not trusting the Horde, because who honestly should? Even members of the Horde shouldn’t have trusted where they were being lead, but Blizz didn’t seem to mind painting every member of the Horde, as well as our own characters with the same paintbrush used for Sylvanas.
Right. Sorry, posting while cooking dinner doesn’t always work well on my end either. You’re right in that the tree burned and they went after Sylvanas leading into BFA. Anduin was still hoping to broker peace though all around. He had all the rest of the leadership supporting and it seemed goading him into the confrontation with Sylvanas in Lordaeron. That cutscene has Anduin, Genn, Alleria and Jaina. As elder fighters who’ve seen more war, not one of those other Alliance war council members stepped up and said,
“Ummmmm… maybe we better have a better plan for counteracting blight before we go poke at the enemy.”
Every King has military strategists to help bounce ideas off of and listen to feedback. So, given their plan was to just march in - and demand Sylvanas step down for her war crimes. Well. None of them seem to bright on that decision. I don’t hold Anduin to blame on that one. It seems like it was a joint endeavor, they made him the figurehead that would take up the crown of responsibly metting out justice they demanded. While the supported him, they clearly didn’t think things through.
But maybe you see it another way? I got some parmesan chicken waiting to be consumed and the hungries banging pots and pans inside my skull, telling me I better eat.
Anduin is a young King who got the job because his father was killed in battle. It makes perfect sense that he would not be the best general in the war.
This happened in real life as well when someone was pushed into a leadership position without the experience necessary to deal with the problems. King Richard II and King Edward VI of England come to mind.
-Manduin, as a KID had his father kidnapped, his mother figure turned out to be an evil dragon, his mentor killed by the lich king and garrosh dunking a bell on him
-Lost his dad in legion and needed to take over a kingdom and a military alliance at a young age without being prepared for it
-Lead a war against a genocidal meniac and needed to balance the integrity of the eastern kingdoms and the reconquest of night elf lands
-Captured and tortured by the jailor. The forcefully, against his will, made to commit evil acts against his nature.
My guy, my dude, my broski - the guy has been through some real sh!t since he was a child - not expecting him to go through PTSD is kind of crazy and Im assuming this is some asmon take but w/e.
We’re experiencing Anduins journey to manhood - even his father went through some sh!t (albeit not as crazy as Anduin). He’s leaning towards becoming more like his father and arthas and Im all for it.
He was basically smiling and fist bumping Thrall four minutes into the teaser video. Either he’s over it and already “manned up” or whatever, or has some really effective anti-depressants.
All good! You’re making me hungry now as I keep playing on the forums when I should be finishing up work and heading home. lol
Ultimately, I don’t blame him because it just seems like there would be too many stop measures for a mistake like that. It falls under shoehorned plot device. lol I’ve always liked Anduin. It’s funny cause when the trailer first started playing, I was cursing him in my head but then my emotional side kicked in. It’s why I wanted people’s opinion on how much sympathy he deserves.
Also, love the gif you used. Just went to Disney World over the weekend and was happy to see merchandise for A Goofy Movie.
Thank you for the real life reference! It’s easy to think things should just happen a certain way, especially when they should, but life doesn’t work that way. It still feels like a glaring mistake on so many parts, but then again the entire thing started with catapults burning down a city sized tree.
We met Varian when he was already an adult and a seasoned soldier. All things considered, Anduin would not have been any worse than his father at that age after everything he’s been through.
Yes, and a glaring mistake is what you would expect from a young king. Being bailed out by an ally is also what you would expect.
As for the Night Elves, they were living on a stump, not a tree. Real question is, who cut the tree down to provide the flat surface and where did all that wood go?
Anduin was a pretty good leader in BfA when he led Alliance against the Horde and then aligned with Thrall and Saurfang to stop Sylvanas. He has all the leadership and fighting skills and I’m glad Blizz showed his human side in light of what happened in the Maw. It humanizes him and gives him character. It would’ve been weird if we didn’t see some kind of a mental struggle after Shadowlands.
I think he does deserve a little slack. He had very little combat and tactics training prior to that. He focused mostly on being a priest. You also have to place blame on his much older and much more experienced advisors. They let him down, which was poor writing.
