Except that the people who agree with sharding in the starting zones at launch aren't the desperate ones. We're the ones getting what we want.
You anti-sharders are the desperate ones. Grasping at straws trying to find any excuse, no matter how untrue, to try and get Blizzard to change their minds.
I will post every day, e-mail their team every day, tweet them every day, just to press home the fact that there are people that actually appreciate what they are doing for Classic and agree that a sharded launch experience is leagues better than the disaster the starting zones would be without it.
If we open the door to sharding, they could also utilize it for launches like the Scourge Invasion and the AQ gates. Which would be horrendously bad.
I'm hesitantly accepting of having it at launch for a short duration, but they are rightfully using it as a last resort.
Why would they? Those events went well without sharding during their time (at least I dont think sharding was a thing in wotlk). If 2004-2008 tech could handle the load I am sure 2018 tech can.
You know what would suck? Takingnlaunch day off of work to play and getting endless crashes, queues, and then finally getting in and not being able to do anything cuz there are 2500 people in valley of trials.
Blizzard literally said on 8/7/2017 that RP was going shardless for all old zones, but will shard in all current expansion zones and all zones where there is a game-driven event that draws players en masse to a zone.
Please. Read. Before. Replying.
Not only a game driven event. Also player driven events can cause sharding to turn on.
Tournament of the Ages is a player derived RP event held annually.
Blizzard hot fixed sharding to be off so it could be held.
https://blizzardwatch.com/2017/08/07/rp-tournament-event-saved-phasing-hotfixes/
...
From now on, I'm gonna call fanboys/white knights like you Corporate Justice Warriors, now get outta here, and let Vanilla stay Vanilla, ya CJW!
We arent 'defending' Blizzard. We are letting all these people know that they are misrepresenting things, lying about what Blizzard promised to RP servers, and letting a stupid YouTube video drive them into a frenzy over nothing.
Really, I'm just making sure someone in these threads is actually presenting the truth instead of raging that Blizzard lied about sharding to RPers. They didn't, RPers just apparently can't read.
You're not presenting THE truth, only your personal interpretation of the truth. You can use things Blizz said all day as "evidence", but that doesn't change the fact that people are not only justified, but wise not to trust Blizz.
...
You're right, a few weeks of sharding for a smooth launch will fundamentally alter 'principles'. That's a rational argument.
It certainly wont smooth out thousands of people jumping into the game at the same time in the same spot. Certainly wont help people have an enjoyable first day in the game. It certainly violates a 'principle' of WoW to have overpopulation ruin a game night. WoW had a bad launch and this was part of the problem. Note... problem... not feature.
But we don't WANT to smooth out thousands of ppl jumping into the game in the same spot. We want it to be like it was on release... Like an "authentic vanilla experience". Like they said they were making. And running into ppl over and over again and recognizing that is how individuals make friends. Just like in real life.
Also, I was on Dragonmaw, our server was at least moderate population and rarely went down. On release it had a high thousand queue which took about 2.5hrs to get in. Went away in about a week and a half.
Some of you dont want sharding on launch. Many others do. You dont speak for everyone.
2.5hr queues to login that went away in just a week or two. Nice. So a week or two isnt a long time then?
So sharding to avoid 2.5 hour queues, crashes, and massively overloaded zones for a week or two... an agreeably small amount of time, right? ... should really not 'omg, just ruin everything', right?
Your big boy/girl pants are waiting for you when your tantrum is over.
To the ones in here trying to say the video is staged and trying to make the lot of us here liars, here's some proof for you:
A post from general discussion (which is one of many that arose after each patch after Legion launched):
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20749226609?page=1
Oh but wait! Before you read the blue post and try to say we are lying again, here's a twitter post from Blizzard that someone from that thread reminded them of:
https://twitter.com/warcraftdevs/status/773586822865846272
This was a very common occurence during the launch of Legion. They kept saying it was only temporary and unintended and they would then do a "hotfix". This happened time and time again and threads like this one was made over and over until no longer was it "unintended" and hotfixes were made. Instead their story changed to the blue post you see in the thread I linked.
So to the two of you in here acting all high and mighty and treating us like fools, you can stick it where the sun don't shine and give it a rest. Stop trying to spread your bs saying we are lying and the video is staged. Shows how desperate you are.
You're kind of an idiot. I already established and backed up with a link that RP shardless has never and will never apply to legion (or
BFA) zones (order halls were apparently an exception). The blue post in that link is them getting as annoyed as I am right now that you idiots can't read. The Tweet is them fixing a bug in order halls that made them shard.
ALL CURRENT EXPANSION ZONES SHARD. The removal of sharding applied only to older zones and only if there wasnt some game-driven event in that zone at the time.
Read the blue post in the link I provided. Read the posts I made. You are illiterate or willfully ignorant at this point. It's the only conclusion that can be reached.
"It was a common occurrence in legion"... literally Blizzard "RP is going shardless except in legion zones and old zones with gsme-driven events".
I dont have to try hard to make you out to be a fool and liar. All the proof is here.
The links I provided were not talking about RP realms. They are referring to the game in general at Legion launch. All realms, PvP, RP, PvE, RPPvP, etc.
You didn't prove a thing. The blue in that post went back on what had been stated previously and another player in that thread provided the twitter post from Blizzard to prove it. But continue on with your name calling as it seems to be the only way you know how to communicate. You can try to spread all the misinformation and lies you like, but thankfully most of us here know better.
What part of the words "We've identified an issue causing
unintended cross-realm grouping in most Legion zones (including Order Halls). A fix is in the works." don't you seem to understand? I suppose the post I linked with over 400 upvotes regarding the subject didn't ring a bell either? Take notice of the word "
AGAIN" in the title. They said "again" because this was a common occurrence at the start of Legion after each reset. As I said, after each patch the player base would complain, they would say it was unintended and push out a hotfix. They said it was not supposed to be a permanent thing in new content. Then they went back on it. Read the thread yourself.
Continue your name calling if it makes you feel better. Notice in the thread people calling it a bug, etc. Why were they calling it a bug? Because Blizzard was saying so.
...

If Blizzard said they were going to shard in X situations, then shard in X situations, they didn't lie.
You are only justified in calling someone a liar if you can demonstrate how they lied. Being ignorant to the truth of sharding does not mean you are justified. Blizzard has been very clear about sharding and when it happens. There have been some bugs with it, which were fixed. That is going to happen. If you cant accept an occasional bug, dont use computers.

So how do you know they will keep their word? Classic isn't even in beta yet. Blizz can SAY whatever they want, but I'll believe it when I SEE it.

I'm more concerned about the playerbase. Already on these forums we're seeing more and more people saying things like...'Sharding wouldn't be that bad in capitals, or blackrock, or AQ, or this or that. The goalposts are already being moved. Just wait until a convenience like sharding is taken away from these types of players. Revolt, revolution, turmoil, riots in the streets. So what is the point of sharding? Blizz is trying to satisfy people who will never be satisfied. They'll always ask for more.

No idea, but all they're doing is hurting the cause and proving Brack right. They think they want authentic Vanilla, but they don't.

I read more of the forum post. The blue post and the tweet say the same thing by the way. Unintended grouping of players onto too few shards.
So this issue was just CRZ not working properly and putting too many people in one shard, and it came back after server restarts for awhile in Legion.
Soooo.. given that this isnt an RP server issue, just the sharding tech working poorly, I'm not even sure how it's relevant to the discussion of whether Blizzard lied about not sharding in RP servers and that's why people dont trust them to only use it during launch of Classic.
If sharding is turned off, it cant function poorly and cause overcrowding (the issue in what you linked). You know what will cause overcrowding though? Not sharding on launch.
I assumed what you linked me too was about RP, cuz why else would you link me to it given the conversation that's going on. The fact that's it not makes me question, again, whether you can read and comprehend.
This whole tangent you started is irrelevant.

To be really crystal clear, every type of server leveraged sharding technology throughout legion zones, and it was supposed to, and Blizzard never said it wasnt supposed to.
They had issues where sharding worked poorly after server restarts. that's really it. The tin foil hats said they did it on purpose to save money on servers. At legion expansion launch... peak gameplay time. Yeah... that makes sense for them to do.

They are making the mistake of trying to satisfy the ones who won't play long term. In the meantime they will have lost the ones that would have.
I was going to buy the virtual ticket originally. I decided to wait and see what others had to say before doing so. I'm glad I did. Saved myself $50 and they didn't get my money for it. I was completely ready and willing to buy the game if a purchase price was needed along with an extra sub to play if they ended up doing it right. Now, nah.
And don't try to tell me they don't go back on their word. (Mean this in the general sense, not towards you Mogar) They have emphasized community for Classic many times since the announcement. They already went back on their word by adding sharding knowing full well it destroys community.

You're welcome! Whenever I spend time on these forums I am reminded of the average IQ of humanity. I feel so bad for Blizzard.
