An Eye on Roleplayers Behavior

As someone who has run D&D games for a long time, one thing that I will absolutely never allow is allow someone to play an evil character. An evil character always winds up creating an upheaval in the ranks that turns into inter party conflict followed by character deaths. People get attached to their characters. It only makes sense because they put a bit of themselves into their characters, after all, they are playing what is fun for them.

That being said, some people come here to escape the real world and get caught up in the immersion. If you want to play a disruptive character that makes waves, that clearly is going to cause someone to get upset. It’s not very different from what I just said. I have also seen people RP as an excuse to cause pain and suffering to others. That’s not ok to do. People should be allowed to play in peace and quiet.

I am honestly glad as an RP’er that this sort of toxic behavior is being dealt with along with the coming of the Social Contract. I came back to the game a few months just before the Social contract came out. I’ve had my issues with Blizzard and the way that they used to handle inappropriate behavior. From my interactions with a GM Manager that I spoke to they seemed just as honest as Square Enix had been. Honestly I think more so. I’m giving them a second chance as a player, and my gut feeling is that I won’t be disappointed.

Kicking an evil disruptive player who is causing trouble and unnecessary drama is also a valid role play response.

This seems like a mess if I’m being honest. Antagnists in roleplay are crucial to keep things interesting and afloat, but if everyone is terrified of getting reported…then what’s the point? There -NEEDS- to be special circumstances set into place with RP in mind or this system will just encourage rp’ers to leave in flocks if they care about any semblance of story outside of simple ‘slice of life’ aspects.

The rules have not changed Ishimori. Public chat has always had the same rules no matter who you are, what you are doing, or what server you are on.

If you want to engage in roleplay that is more mature you need to be sure to take it to a place that the public (in game) does not see. That ensures your scenario stays between the roleplayers who consented to that chat.

If someone wants to play an antagonist in public with strangers, they need to be creative with the language and stay within the rules.

But why? It’s not even remotely difficult to be ‘villainous’ without running afoul of the EULA. Players have been doing it in WoW for nearly two decades. It’s already been said, but it bears repeating: the rules of acceptable behavior and language have not changed.

There is absolutely nothing holding people back from being antagonists. It can be done tastefully if you RP publically, and if you must take it to a raid/party chat for spicer (in an non-ERP fashion, since people tend to make assumptions about we Moon Guardians) purposes, that is also available to you to keep it from being seen by the public. Of course, anyone can report language at any given time, regardless of venue/channel, but keeping it localized if it’s going to be darker or not so much for public consumption is a safer bet with the fact the rules are being enforced much more so these days.

To be honest, I’m hoping with the greater emphasis on the rules, we’ll see people getting slapped down more for the harassment of RPers and our events when the trolls, their toys and their large mounts come bopping along. We’ll see if that happens as time goes on, but as has been said - the rules haven’t changed. Are they enforcing them more these days? To be sure. But any RPer worth their salt can create a scene within the boundaries we’re given without fearing a sanction.

Please bear in mind there are three different threads on WRA, MG, and ED all about this topic, each one specifically stating not to use this thread to discuss personal thoughts on the topic.

Unless you have more information to offer about the ToS that roleplayers would find useful, please consider using one of those threads. It’s especially inappropriate to bump a thread like this with personal thoughts after it’s been so long since the last reply.

You already have options in the game.

Thanks for the info, Auhgag.

In order to help encourage discussion to remain where the community is talking I’m going to lock this thread.

Thanks, all!
