An Eye on Player Behavior and Reporting Improvements

Do what I do, and link to Reddit

At least until they decide that’s also against the TOS for the forums, which they probably will at some point

Am I being too extreme with my thought process?

I want to have fun. I don’t want someone legit upset or to be harassed. I’ve dealt with that, it’s not fun. But, posting trolly things, I can’t think of an example rn, and being silly makes me laugh.

What makes you think you are going to get a perma ban for a word of profanity? You have to do something really really bad OR keep getting many Silences, Suspensions, etc before they close an account.

Exaggerating is not going to do much here. We have not been allowed to use masked profanity since 2004.

The previous forum software did not let us create any clickable outside links at all.

The current one does. I am not sure if they will go back to the former rules or not, but if people abused it they might.

Advice, stop joking here. There are other outlets for joking.

I have seen a streamer “He Who Must Not Be Named” test out the report feature and got mass reported then banned. After seeing that, I don’t feel confident about this new social contract.

So reporting players who do not have enough gold?

This has been addressed many many times over the years, and also in this thread already.

Streamer got his chat to mass report a line of text and got the streamer SQUELCHED. That is an auto penalty when many unique reports come in during a short time. It was put in place long ago for gold spammer/website advertisers. It squelches the account pending GM review.

That streamer was not banned, but they were Suspended when a GM got to it for abusing the report feature.

It was educational for the player base I suppose.

  1. actual lol
  2. how many kids do you have?

If the people who are usually toxic keep turning their chat off that will benefit everyone, imo.

And others will be abusing the report feature.

I can see it now. Player mentions he love eating tbone steak rare.
All the vegetarians report him and he gets banned.

Be wary of those vegetarian only WoW guilds (unless you are a Tauren).

The system will inevitably be abused. Best to use discord or non blizzard affiliated systems to chat. Not worth the risk. Even the very kind and helpful people should stick to discord.

If that is what happens then win win for everyone really. Nicer public chat environment, fewer reports for GMs to deal with, etc.

I really don’t think they will though. Seeing as our rules are not changing …they are just reminding us of what we already agreed to. If someone was not getting reported before, they likely won’t now.
