The 4 backpack slots and custom edit ability requires both Authenticator and SMS Protect/Phone text notifications. Scroll up a bit. I linked the Blizzard post with the information and links. 
That is probably why you still get that message. If you get the extra backpack slots you will know it is set up right.
You rock! My LK authenticator hasn’t died yet, but it’ll be good to have a backup.

Those batteries are 100% dead. Lol. Blizzard has been said to be careful buying them from 3rd parties for that reason.
Also, I’m pretty sure at this point you can just buy a cheap used phone for less than the autheticator.

There must be a lot of people unsubbing over this issue for so many threads trying to give tutorials on “why it is worth it to you to spend 4x as much to play wow as you were before this debacle”.

Imagine thinking that the majority of people in the first world don’t have smart phones in almost 2022.
It’s all estimates, from sales and what not but
294 m out of 330ish million in the US
and the same site has Europe at 75ish%, russia is a little lower.
If you narrow that down to gamers its probably boardering 90%
Imagine thinking that every infant already has a smartphone at birth.
This is where common sense should have kicked in, I understand why you think a majority wouldn’t have smart phones by now.
