Am I the Jerk? RBGs and Rating/Ranking

I had a baaad string of Rated BG’s today.
10 straight losses and only a single win.

The win being only worth 9 rating.
The losses dropped me all the way back under 1500…

But what I wanna talk about in this thread is am I the JERK for being mad at people que’ing in Rated BG Blitz in GREEN quality pvp gear…and not like 1 or 2 pieces.
After the 3rd loss I noticed alotta people on my team were NOT in 636 Blood or 639 conquest/arthi stuff.

Now I understand everyone should have a chance to PVP if they want. But at what point do you have to question…is it fair to que with this level of gear that might hurt my team and those team members?

This might not even need to be talked about if BLIZZARD would change the ranking system and the massive number of cheesy ways people exploit the que’s and rating system with entire packs of bots/alts.

But im curious what others think on this.

I dont blame people wanting to do RBGs, the ranking and rating system sucks, but I do feel like people should consider making sure they are in compeditive item level gear before just jumping in, especially this late in the season when the bloodstone cap is very high as is the conquest cap.

I despise rated PvP. Just never been my thing but what you are suggesting certainly seems more than reasonable to me.

Cheers.

PS:
I enjoy PvP but WoW PvP was waaay better when it was all about the players being crafty enough to survive between quests.

Little known fact about me, even though I believe “PVP is the Devil™”, I actually enjoy battlegrounds from time to time. But there is no way in west hades that I would do a rated BG. First, people are mean. Second, I am awful. Third, my gear is worse than I am. And I think about that before I join a BG, which is why I generally don’t.

So, you are not going to encounter the people who actually do stop to think if maybe rated BGs aren’t for them. Because they aren’t there. But you are going to encounter people who want what they want and don’t care who gets screwed over in the process.

Basically, I don’t think you are the jerk. You sound pretty reasonable to me, and I would probably feel the same way.

They’re in the queue because gearing up for PvP is a chore and I suppose they’re hoping to cut a few corners to get there. I can’t blame them for that. Since the system is allowing them, it also becomes unfair to matchmaking in several ways — it gives geared people an easy, unearned win and keeps higher ranks out of folks’ reach. Then the cycle begets itself.

WoW PvP matchmaking has always been gratuitously flawed, perhaps because PvP is very much still an afterthought. I get bit by the PvP bug now and then, gear up the hard way, then hit the RBG queues (or join a team). But I wait till I’m in blues and purples because as a healer, I can’t mess around and I live longer in better gear. But eventually, one too many brutal matches or toxicity drains me and I go back to PvP hiatus mode.

I don’t have an answer. I just can commiserate with the issue. That said, don’t take it out on the green gear players. Some may be new, not know better for one reason or another, or genuinely think it’s an easier way to gear up instead of spread misery around. If there were better paths to gear up in PvP, I bet they’d be there insetad.

Turning your conquest gear into tier would help, and I’d also optimize my enchants and gem sockets before telling others to take gearing seriously.

I myself hate RATED but sadly it is the only way to get RANK Titles now…
why do RANK titles matter…? They shouldnt…I mean I made myself an OVERLORD and no one really questioned it…no one that mattered anyway…

What you’re asking for is certainly not unreasonable, but it’s a public queue.

It’s similar to someone being angry when they post a public crafting order for something hoping for 600 or better piece and they get subpar crafted gear by someone just trying to level up crafting or a grab a quick 1000 gold commission.

No, you aren’t being unreasonable but it’s a public queue. You get what you get. not everyone who joins the queue, cares enough to care.

yea youre being a jerk.

only way to get the conquest gear is to queue up for rateds

this is typical pug experience. everyone who pugs in this game is gonna run into people who are deeply unserious.

if you want to avoid this, sounds like you gotta join a PvP team.

It doesnt help that Blizzard thought it was a good idea to add a weekly quest for getting honor in Blitz/Solo Arena to boost its numbers.

Which just turned in to people queueing up and fighting in mid to get honor, without doing objectives.

They should have made it “win 4 matches” or something like that instead, so you have to try…

No WINS is also bad…

Things should be EFFORT based!

I can still remember when I needed to WIN WSG 1 time…15 failed attempts later I just got rid of the quest.

This! This right here is another reason to enjoy RP.

Well played, good sir… err… your majesty overlord orc, sir.

“You’re a Jerk”
“I know”
-does the Jerk dance

I think it’s okay to be frustrated but on some level I don’t think it matters -what- gear they queue up in. The ranking system -should- in theory sort itself out with players refusing to gear staying in the lower tiers. It sucks to get caught in collateral but that’s really it. I haven’t done much Horde gameplay this expac (and definitely not any PvP) but I imagine gearing might be slow with Horde having a hard time getting caches in War Mode.

We’re talking about blitz here, which is the RBG version of solo shuffle.

Unfortunately Kieth I think you need to look at SS as a casual form of pushing rank and understand that finessing the system is almost impossible because of how reliant you are on other people in that game mode. Folks who have high rank in blitz are probably exceptionally skilled, great communicators, queued with a healer, and got lucky. Or they cheated. We’re also at the point in the season where players may have achieved their desired rank on their mains, and ranking up on an alt is less important to them.

It isn’t worth being angry about what you can’t control. But I’d view this as an opportunity to seek out those with worse gear on the other team and make them pay for thinking they could get away with it. You know, if that would make you feel better. I don’t think it would work with me personally.

What I’m hearing is wow Should have just done what GW2 did and gave everyone pre-made sets they could pick from. Gearing seems like a nightmare

PVP is more player skill vs player skill combined with good group coordination along with a little luck. What usually costs the game in a rated BG are lack of communication followed by player experience then fatigue.

Regarding PvP gear, it is a catch-22 . You have to run rated BGs and epics to earn the gear. Fewer players running rated BGs equates to higher loses in quick matches and epic BGs due in part to lower overall gear scores.

the last few losses no one communicated except for me, and I was told to ST FU and put on ignore by a Alliance Priest…

Topsail and the other might be right and I just need to except that Im going to either get a random bunch of try hards who are looking to accomplish something, or a pack of who gives a ****s.

Maybe at some point I can work with FLAK to get a full regular 10man RBG team going.

I am going to give you two reasons why everyone should not get upset over rating in this game:

Same class, same spec, same games, same gear, same player, different ranks.
