I really enjoy pvp – especially open world pvp. Like a LOT.
The problem is, all of my friends want to play on a normal server. I don’t want to not play with them, but I feel like I’ll be missing out on a lot of fun if I don’t play on a pvp server…
Are pvp servers as fun as they used to be? Is there a lot of world pvp?
Have on you play with your friends, and one you play on a PvP server.
My server is thriving in WPVP.
There is a lot of ganking and very little actuall pvp, but it’s fun imo.
The problem is I don’t have a lot of free time, so I really only have time for one main character! Doh! Can you even world pvp on a normal server? Is all of Outlands open world free for all faction pvp on pvp servers?
You can turn toggle your pvp flag on, but that doesn’t guarantee anyone will try to fight you.
On pvp servers there are 2 skills you must master…
- how to be diplomatic in the face of the enemy when #s are stacked against you
- how to take advantage of reinforcements.
Master those and you master the pvp server however you’ll never learn any of that playing on a pve server.
Interesting. Thank you – I hate feeling like I have to choose between playing with my friends and not enjoying myself as much, or having fun alone…
You can come play on hordeside on rattlegore and make new friends
Yes, Yes, and Yes.
Couldnt imagine playing PvE.
I just might!
For what it’s worth, I see flagged people a lot while questing on my Normal server but, honestly, World PvP engagement will probably be fairly minimal outside the occasional bored 70s killing questgivers.
If World PvP is the primary thing you look forward to in the game, PvE servers may indeed make you feel like you’te missing out but the BG and arena scene is still pretty active.
That’s exactly how I feel. I am having a really hard time choosing what to do…
the simple solution is to convince your friends to play on a pvp server or to make new friends on a pvp server.
PvP servers are higher risk and higher reward than PvE. As others have mentioned, a lot of “WPvP” is just being ganked:
- By somebody a higher level than you
- When you are in the middle of another fight
- All of the above
A lot of it is also enemy factions tipping their hats because WPvP is time consuming and it’s mutually beneficial to not gank one another. But every now and then you get a kerfuffle when both sides get sick of one another’s nonsense, and it’s really organic and exciting.
I played PvE in original TBC and now play PvP. Your heart always races every time you see a red nameplate. I’d say by and large that PvP servers are more exciting than PvE, but playing with friends is probably more fun than playing PvP by yourself.
Good insight!
You lost me on the first line tho. Higher risk I agree with but what is higher “reward”? There are no rewards to either pve or pvp. But preference of play style in the open world.
I mean, on pve servers if someone beats me to a mining node I am just SoL, but on pvp if someone beats me to a mining node I can fight them for it.
Dont compromise your playstyle for your irl friends, you will made wow friends.
I used to be in the “I’ll never play on a PvE server” camp and loved world pvp, but I gotta say I LOVE playing on my PvE server nowadays. It’s actually a nice change of pace after being a rabid wpvper for 14 years IMO.
Maybe I’m just old now lol. But it helps that the community on my PvE server (Myzrael) is awesome!
It’s the main reason I fell in love with world of WARcraft. 10% leveling 10% dungeons 80% PVP.
From going to World Defense alerts to help questers and all out epic rivals you obtain I 100% quit retail over the fact they broke World Defense during Legion and refused to fix it over “Warmode”. I’ll never go back to retail no matter the hype over this 1 small fact. It’s what some of my friends did for over 10 years. It’s what kept us living in azeroth.
Classic and TBC gave me a reason to return.
