I’m saying I want to experience the original AV. All I know is the AV from WotLK onward. I don’t particularly care about how other people feel about it, I want the whole Vanilla WoW package.
There were various reasons less people played the early versions of AV:
- People were still leveling
- People were still gearing up
- People were farming gold for epic mounts
- People did not understand the mechanics of the BG
- AB and WSG had brackets starting in early levels and were completed more quickly
Reasons why AV was changed from it’s intended play to a race:
- Marks of Honor made completing BGs the most efficient way to gain honor
- AB and WSG had brackets starting in early levels and were completed more quickly
Marks of Honor were put in when they began to dismantle AV to cater to the race for MoHs.
Within an hour of the servers opening, both Horde and Alliance were at each others Generals. The Alliance wiped and the Horde won.
I don’t think one hour is long enough to be a full Alterac Valley experience.
I would like Patch 1.7 with some 1.8 changes:
- In order to keep teams in Alterac Valley more numerically balanced, players will now enter Alterac Valley on a one-for-one basis (i.e. if there are 30 players in the battleground for each side with 10 players in the Alliance queue and 2 players in the Horde queue, only two players from each team will be added, bringing the total to 32 per side).
- The minimum number of players required to start a battle in Alterac Valley has been lowered to 20 (the maximum is still 40).
- Graveyard capture points are now at different locations. The banners players must interact with in order to capture a graveyard have been distanced from each other somewhat in order to alleviate “graveyard zerging”.
- Several terrain changes were made to fix some geometry exploits.
- Iceblood Graveyard has been fortified.
- The Frostwolf Relief Hut now has appropriate guards.
the only people that prefer 1.12 AV were people that didnt actually like AV and just wanted the exalted gear so they never had to play it again
Truth bomb.
And that with L58 players and questionable gear?
yikes
I could just as easily say the only people who liked 1.5 AV were people who just liked fighting NPC’s.
I could just as easily make stuff up whole cloth as well.
Odd that when asked what about 1.12 AV people actually like, not many answers beyond that it was over with more quickly.
id like the chance to experience the original AV
I joined vanilla in like… patch 1.9 or something so by the time i was able to even que for AV. it was different.
This explosion of complaints was bound to happen. The majority of people waiting for Classic have never visited this forum and had no clue that Blizzard was using a nerfed version of AV. Give us that epic battle back. It is worth the effort to restore AV to it’s full glory!
The ironic thing is that old AV does what Warmode in retail is trying to do. It was a place where you could go to find PvP for long periods of time as opposed to a warmode toggle that no one turns on because the incentive to is almost non existent.
Dang…sounds like we’re getting a really nerfed down AV…zerg, kill and be gone…so sad.
Hmm, that’s slightly disappointing… I really feel that a true “classic” feel for AV would require something from patch 1.8 or so. Having to deal with the extra NPCs make it a bit more challenging, IMHO.
Playing just now, the matches were only lasting about 1.5 hours (+/- 30m or so) – at least in the 3 that I played.
Almost no one was doing any of the resource quests (I think I was literally the only one running resources from the mine, or rounding up rams, in one of them), which I feel is almost essential to get a stronger “this is AV” feel.
Maybe it’s a pipedream, but I really think it would be fun to experience the multi-day AV sessions again…
I realize this would affect/impact any of the reward token situations, since only a small handful of people would get the AV marks (whoever was in the AV when it was completed)… so maybe it wouldn’t really ever end up like this, anyway. (Unless that token mechanic is changed in some way?)
…then again, I may be the only one who is nostalgic for the multi-day AVs
MoHs were cancer to AV. If they went with say, 1.7, they could have simply not had AV MoHs.
But here we are…
The moment that Peeling The Onion and The Artichoke lost meaning, AV was kaput.
So after playing the beta AV here’s what I say, maybe MoH will cause a desire to rush but that will at best be a finite desire.
In beta there’s a strong desire to just win. With all towers down alliance and horde are still fighting tooth and nail in a stale mate. And that is what i expect to see long term in AV. There’s no NPC’s it’s just pure pvp and there is no zerg.
In short it’s pure fun.
Dude is a troll. No one wants 1.12 AV, except for the people that don’t like any AV.
I don’t think there was a vote on what patch everyone wanted. Blizzard announced they would use 1.12. All or nothing you say…we are not getting a true Classic experience with this patch…this patch was used to move us into TBC.
At least we have people testing AV and coming to the same conclusion now. Blizz may want to go by the cheapest and easiest route for classic, but that isn’t what’s best for the game, or their wallets.
I could be wrong but it looks like the AV that Towelliee is in has been going on for 8 hours now.
